The Beards

Lucille and Paul Beard of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday Sept. 16, 2000, at a dinner in their honor at Nick's Airport Inn in Hagerstown.

Family and friends attended the celebration, hosted by their children and spouses, Karen and Bob Rice of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; Wade Beard of Hagerstown; and Clay and Sheri Beard of West Point, N.Y.

The Beards were married Sept. 6, 1950, by the Rev. Franklin Haas at Calvary Methodist Church in Frederick, Md.

Mrs. Beard is the former Lucille Snyder, daughter of the late Mary and Russell Snyder. She retired from Eyerly's Department Store in Hagerstown.

Mr. Beard is the son of the late Helen and Paul Beard.

He retired from Davis, Renn and Associates Inc. in Hagerstown.

They have four grandchildren.

The Kohlers

Walter and Kathryn Kohler of Maugansville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 9, 2000, at a surprise party at Four Points Hotel Sheraton in Hagerstown.

It was hosted by their daughter, Susan Kohler Heck, and her husband, Doug Heck, of Chicago, and daughter Mary K. Kohler of Hagerstown. Family and close friends attended.

The Kohlers were married July 11, 1950, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Johnstown, Pa. They moved to Maugansville, where they have lived for 33 years.

Mrs. Kohler is retired. She is an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church Choir.

Mr. Kohler retired from Mack Trucks Inc. in 1988. He is a member of Cumberland Valley Woodcarvers Club and Miniature Carousel Builders.
