Friday's Roundup - Hubs stay perfect with win


Dustin Showalter scored on a goal from Luke Mongrain, and Tim Salvagno scored North Hagerstown's second goal as the No. 5 Hubs (10-0, 5-0) defeated Boonsboro (4-3, 2-1) 2-0 Thursday in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League.

David Chaney had two saves for his fifth shutout of the year.

Middletown 3, South 0

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Mike Buzzard scored on a pass from Jeff Manning, while J.T. Moore and Mark Bucheimer each scored unassisted goals for the Knights (3-6, 2-3). Scott Barish had six saves for South (2-6, 1-4).

Williamsport 4, Walkersville 1

WILLIAMSPORT - Todd Knepper had two goals and an assist while Jason Knicely had two assists and a goal to lead No. 4 Williamsport over the Lions. Carlos Gomez scored once while Ben Jordan had an assist to help the Wildcats (7-2, 4-0). Darren Stull scored for Walkersville.

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Cory Endlich scored twenty seconds into overtime off an assist from Robbie Copenhaver to lift the Cougars past Francis Scott Key.

ELDERSBURG, Md. - Liberty and No. 3 Thomas Johnson deadlocked not only on the scoreboard but also in shots on goal, with eight apiece.

Bryan Cain scored off an assist by Gus Martz for TJ (5-2-2, 2-0-1). Eric Freguson had five saves.

Frederick 2, Urbana 0

FREDERICK - Andrew Barrie, with an assist from Tim McCallum, scored midway in the second half and McCallum added his own goal with four minutes left to ice a win over Urbana. Justin Shade made seven saves for his third shutout for No. 6 Frederick (7-1-2, 3-0-1). JV: Frederick, 2-0.

Waynesboro 3, Gettysburg 2

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Zach Tanner, John Onikepe and Sean Kipe all scored for Waynesboro (5-7, 1-5). Phil Woodring and Nick Kipe added assists for the Indians.

Greencastle 5, Big Spring 1

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Shuaiming Peng and John Bitner each had two goals to lead No. 2 Greencastle (10-2). John Bitner, Josh Borrick, Josh Meketa and Matt Friedley all added assists for the Blue Devils, and Friedley also had one goal.

Highland View 4, Fred. Christian 0

Bobby Bedigo scored a hat trick to lead Highland View. Stephen Byrkit also scored for Highland View (6-3-2) and added an assist.


North 3, Walkersville 0

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Meghan Hudak headed a corner kick from Casey Parfitt into the net for No. 6 North's first goal in a victory over No. 5 Walkersville in a key MVAL matchup.

Kaycie Parfitt scored on a direct kick and Jessica McAllister added a goal on an assist from Lindsey Smith for the Hubs (7-3, 4-2). JV: North, 2-0.

St. James 5, Musselman 1

INWOOD, W.Va. - Rebecca Kain led St. James with two goals in a win over Mussleman. Soja Mogens, Jessica Greenberg and Sarah Kornides each scored once for St. James (2-6). Kristen DiGirolamo and Annika Sellgren each had an assist for the Saints. Kathryn Kennard scored for Musselman (3-10).

SJPH 5, Chapelgate 1

FREDERICK, Md. - Maureen Kahn had two goals and Kim Henry had a goal and an assist, while Carly Richfield added a goal for St. John's-Prospect Hall (9-2-1, 5-0). Liz Arkow had a goal and an assist, Linda Horcasitas and Michelle Burdett added assists and Lindsey Weaver had eight saves for SJPH.

McLEAN, Va. - Melanie Johnson had 16 saves for Mercersburg (1-5) in a loss to Madeira, which outshot the Blue Storm, 22-3.

SMITHSBURG - Michelle Feiser led the No. 1 Leopards over South Hagerstown, 15-8, 15-4, 15-9, with 16 service points, 16 assists, and 11 kills. Katy Powell had nine service points and eight digs for Smithsburg (9-0, 5-0).

Cara Crouse led the Rebels with 13 assists, while Kerri Shank had eight kills for South (3-6, 2-2). Jessica Shadrach had nine digs. JV: Smithsburg, 2-1.

Williamsport 3, Boonsboro 1

BOONSBORO - Kristine Porac had 21 assists and 20 digs to lead the No. 3 Wildcats over Boonsboro, 15-3, 15-10, 6-15, 15-4. Danielle Munson had 14 kills and five blocks, while Katie Spoonire had ten kills and 11 digs for Williamsport (7-1, 4-0).

North 3, Clear Spring 0

CLEAR SPRING - North Hagerstown used a balanced attack to defeat Clear Spring, 15-0, 15-1, 15-13.

Michelle Levin and Lauren Anderson had five kills, while Liz Spessard had two kills and two aces for North (5-3) Amie Eichelberger had six service points and four assists for Clear Spring (2-4).

Katie Ambrose had five service points and 14 kills for the Warriors (5-5, 3-3). Leah Easterday and Mandy Binder each had seven service points, with Binder adding 15 assists and 10 kills and Easterday 12 assists and eight kills for Boonsboro.

FSK 3, Middletown 0

MIDDLETOWN - Aubrey Pfau had six blocks and four kills and Amanda Kaufman had six saves in Middletown's 15-0, 15-5, 15-11 loss to Francis Scott Key (7-1, 3-1). Middletown is 5-5, 2-4. JV: FSK, 15-8, 15-3.
