D. Todd McDowell

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Derek Todd McDowell, 37, of 14765 Sherwood Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 27, 1963, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Kenneth Lee McDowell of Hagerstown, and Lynda Jayne Ridenour McDowell of Savannah, Ga.

He was a 1981 graduate of South Hagerstown High School; a graduate of Hagerstown Junior College; and Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

He was the business manager at Tri-State Rehabilitation Inc. He also was a certified public accountant and tax consultant.

He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

He was a member of North American Rod and Gun Club; Hagerstown Jaycees; and past president of Hagerstown Community College Hawk Booster Club.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Jody L. Hershberger of Lawrenceville, Ga.; maternal grandmother, S. Jayne Goodwin of Savannah; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister; two maternal grandfathers; a paternal grandmother; and a paternal grandfather.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St. in Hagerstown. The Revs. Lauran H. Lay and P. Ray Roberson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma G. Phelps

Thelma Gertrude Phelps, 92, of 67 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Julia Manor Nursing Home.

Born May 18, 1908, in Bristol, Va., she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Flora Martin Hutton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Phelps, in 1970.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Godlove of Hagerstown; a son, Harold L. Fleenor Sr. of Waldorf, Md.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

There will be no services or viewing.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.




Terry A. Ring

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Terry Alan Ring, 41, of Route 1, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at his home.

Born Dec. 19, 1958, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Calvin R. Ring of Harpers Ferry, and Betty J. Ring of Martinsburg, W.Va.

He retired from the construction industry as a sheet metal worker.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Richard Lee Ring and Gary Wayne Ring, both of Harpers Ferry; maternal grandmother, Eva Pearl of Harpers Ferry; and his stepmother, Reba Ring of Harpers Ferry.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St. in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Donnie Jane Cardwell will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends today and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Homer J. Lacy Jr.

SUMTER, S.C. - Homer J. Lacy Jr., 67, of Sumter, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at his home.

Born Dec. 23, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Homer J. Lacy Sr. and Maud Heard Lacy.

He was the golf course manager at Shaw Air Force Base.

He retired from the U.S Air Force after 20 years of service. He retired from RAF Lakenheath, England in 1972. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Pat J. Lacy; a daughter, Candace Roberts of Shaw Air Force Base; two sons, Stuart Lacy of Monroe, Wash. and Gary Lacy of Sumter; a sister, Peggy Spickler of Harrisburg, Pa.; a brother, James Lacy of Maugansville; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Burger.

Memorial services were held Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Chapel of Bullock Funeral Home with full military honors. The Rev. Michael Bowen officiated.




Joseph C. Snyder Sr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joseph C. Snyder Sr., 85, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec 26, 1914, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late John and Corrine Ausherman Snyder.

He attended schools in Martinsburg.

He worked in the dry cleaning business.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Arnett and Mary Lou Snyder, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Joseph C. Snyder Jr. and Daniel Casey Snyder, both of Martinsburg; a close friend, Betty Custer of Martinsburg; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; three sisters; and two brothers.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Robert E. Stine

Robert E. Stine, 86, of 15 Cypress St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 2, 1914, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Oscar L. and Ruth E. Potter Stine.

He retired in 1970 from Hall's Motor Freight after more than 30 years of employment.
