It's been a hallmark year for Krista Shea, complete with a college diploma, wedding bells and $35,000 in cash she won in Martin's Food Markets Million Dollar Match Mania Sweepstakes.

Shea, 33, said she regularly shops at the Dual Highway store and started collecting game pieces this summer each time she shopped. By Labor Day weekend, Shea had an inch-high stack of the pieces and began matching them with her game board.

"I realized I was one away on the Ford Explorer, but I figured so was everyone else. The next piece I opened was the winning piece," said the lifelong Hagerstown resident and mother of 5-year-old Kielen.

Shea, who chose to take $35,000 instead of the car, received her check during a short ceremony Tuesday in the store's produce aisle.

She said she will put the money toward her college loans and a new car, probably a Hyundai Elantra or a KIA, she said.

"I think it's great. I can get my car back now, she's been using mine for months," said Earl Grove, Shea's father.

Martin's Assistant store manager Mike Kephart said he was thrilled to have a local winner in the contest.

"I think I was more excited than she was the day she came in," Kephart said.

Shea, who said she's "not famous for being lucky," also won a bag of potatoes in the Martin's game.

"I'm a loyal customer now. Absolutely," she said.

October is proving to be a busy month for Shea, a senior care case manager for the Commission on Aging, who is getting married Oct. 13.

Shea met fianc Patrick Anderson when she sold him a "Ren and Stimpy" cartoon T-shirt on Internet auction site e-bay. She said the two began trading e-mails, and soon he was coming from London to visit.

Shea and other customers received a game piece every time they shopped with their Martin's Bonuscard from July through September. The markers corresponded with a game board and participants who completed a section of the board won the prize listed there.

Other prizes included a $1 million grand prize, one year of free groceries, cash and store gift certificates.

More than two million game pieces were distributed in 17 Martin's supermarkets, but so far no one has claimed the $1 million grand prize, said Peter Coderre, director of marketing for the supermarket chain. Participants have through Oct. 30 to come forward.

Other local winners included Hagerstown residents Robin Lum and Steve and Nancy Smith, who won trips to Orlando.

The Martin's Food Markets chain is part of Giant Food Store, Inc., which runs 91 stores in four states. The chain operates under the name Martin's Food Markets in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and western Pennsylvania, and under the name Giant Food Stores throughout Pennsylvania.

Martin's has three supermarkets in Hagerstown and one in Waynesboro, Pa.
