Local Roundup - North boys remain undefeated


Mike Brooks scored two goals Monday to lead North Hagerstown to a 4-0 victory over Smithsburg to remain undefeated.

The Hubs (8-0) got a goal and an assist from Ben McAbee while Fillip Simic added a goal while Luke Mongrain assisted. North out shot Smithsburg, 25-12.

Boonsboro 6, Brunswick 3

BOONSBORO - Chris Lantz had two goals and an assist, Robbie Pongratz had two goals and an assist and Journey Nicodemus and Joel Forsyth each had a goal for Boonsboro (4-2, 2-0).

Joe Secoges and Matt Lastner scored on penalty kicks and Phil Backover scored a goal for Brunswick.

Highland View 2, CVCS 1

Eduardo Bollati scored on a penalty kick in the final five minutes to lift Highland View Academy to a victory over Cumberland Valley Christian School.


Ewunet Asfaw broke a scoreless tie with a second-half goal to set the tone for Highland View (5-3-2).

Frederick 4, North Carroll 1

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Matt Slagle scored two goals to lead Frederick.

Andrew Barrie and Carl Evens each had one for the Cadets (6-1-1) while Tim McCallun had two assists. Greg Thornton and Brent Jewett each had one assist.

Justin Shade had seven saves for Frederick.

JV: Frederick 5, North Carroll 2.


Williamsport 6, South 0

WILLIAMSPORT - Brooke Wiemer had two goals and three assists to lead Williamsport over South Hagerstown.

Skyler Sanders added two goals for the Wildcats (4-3-1), while Sammie Smiles and Lindsay Dellinger each had one goal.

Kara Hoffman and Beckey Pulieri each had one assist. Ashley Mullican had 15 saves.

Brunswick 2, Clear Spring 1

CLEAR SRPING - Brunswick picked up its first win of the season as Kristen Kennedy and Erin Murphy scored goals. Marty-Kate Quin had an assist and Shannon Hough made five saves for Brunswick.

Katie Beckner scored for Clear Spring (2-5).

JV: Clear Spring, 1-0.

Boonsboro 5, Hedgesville 1

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Ashley Gossert had a goal and an assist, Alli Fries had a goal and two assists and Ashley Reeder, Bethany Windle and Krista Hurley scored goals for Boonsboro (3-3-1).

Amanda Burris scored for Hedgesville.

JV: Boonsboro, 7-0.


HCC 3, Cecil 1

NORTHEAST, Md. - Kelli Martin had 19 service points, 34 assists, 13 digs, and five aces for Hagerstown Community College, which came back from a one-game deficit to defeat Cecil, 12-15, 15-4, 15-9, 15-5.

Lindsey Miller had nine kills and five blocks for the Hawks (22-5, 5-1 Maryland JuCo). Casey Nogle had 13 service points, nine kills and 14 digs, while Erica McCann had nine kills and seven blocks. Tiffany Sipes had 10 service points and eight digs.


Southern Fulton 2, Hancock 1

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Brittany Mellott had six bocks and Kelly True had 12 sevice points for Southern Fulton (5-6) in a 9-15, 15-4, 15-7 victory over Hancock.

Hancock Alicia Barnard had 14 service points, six aces and four kills for Hancock (4-4) while, Lacey McCusker had two srvice points, two aces and seven kills. Monica Fox had two service points and eight assists.

JV: Southern Fulton 2, Hancock 0

Middletown 3, St. John's 0

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Aubrey Psau seven kills and five aces to lead Middletown to a 15-5, 15-6, 15-8 win over St. John's at Prospect Hall.

Mandy Harshman had nine aces and one save for the Knights (4-4), while Patsy Kerstetter added six assists and one save.

JV: Middletown 2, St. John's 0.

Clear Spring 3, Goretti 1

CLEAR SPRING - Amie Eichelberger led Clear Spring with 13 service points, two aces and six assists in a 13-15, 15-9, 15-13, 15-12 win over St. Maria Goretti.

Tara Myers had eight assists and five kill for the Blazers (2-3) while Jamie Poffenberger had nine service points and four aces. Ariann Rowe had nine service points and three kills and Mona Wenker added six kills.

JV: Clear Spring 2, Goretti 0

Hedgesville 3, James Wood 0

WINCHESTER, Va. - Tracey Regalbuto had 11 service points for Hedgesville, while Keri Spies had 10 in a 15-12, 15-8, 15-13 win over James Wood.

Jennifer Merica had nine service points and Keri Jackson had 10 kills for the Eagles.

South 3, Walkersville 0

Allison Wine was 16-for-17 serving with 13 points, six kills and five aces to lead South Hagerstown to a victory over Walkersville.

Tara Crouse 18 service points and seven kills for the Rebels (3-5), while Carrie Shank went 5-for-5 at the service line and had five kills. Bethany Guadalupe was 4-for-4 from the service line with three service points and Ashley Thomas went 5-for-6 serving with three points.

Angie Dietrich had five assists, while Jill Watson added four kills and Jessie Shadrach had five digs.

JV: South Hagerstown 2, Walkersville 1.

North 3, Boonsboro 1

Jen Holden had 17 digs and three aces to lead North Hagerstown to a 15-1, 6-15, 15-7, 15-9 over Boonsboro.

Nicole Morgan had 19 digs and 28 assists for the Hubs (4-3), while Michelle Levin had 13 digs, eight kills and one ace.

Mandi Binder had six assists, three service points, six kills and one ace for Boonsboro (5-4).
