Man shot on I-70



FREDERICK, Md. - A Carlisle, Pa., man in the front passenger seat of a car traveling on Interstate 70 at Md. 80 was shot in the back Saturday evening, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.

David Gregory, 25, was in serious condition at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center Sunday evening.

Police arrested Damon Dimitrycolin Manning, 22, of Burtonsville, Md., at the scene. He had been seated in the back seat of the vehicle.

He was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, transporting a handgun in a vehicle, possession of a handgun and possession of drugs.

He was being held pending a bond hearing.

Police received a cell phone call around 6 p.m. Saturday from Heather Cathleen Blair, 22, of Woodbine, Md.. reporting the shooting.

Blair told police she was driving a 2000 Toyota on I-70 when a back-seat passenger fired one shot from a 40-caliber handgun through the backseat into the back of the victim.

She stopped the car along the shoulder and Gregory got out and collapsed on the ground.

Police said the assailant discarded the weapon at the scene.

Members of the Western Maryland Crime Scene Search Team helped police search the area and locate the handgun.
