No. 1 Greencastle rolls

By CURT HORNBECKER / Staff Correspondent

GREENCASTLE, Pa - Mike Jemison rumbled over, around and through the Shippensburg defense for 210 yards and three touchdowns Friday night, then the first half came to an end.

"Our offensive line just dominated the whole game," said Jemison. "Everybody got their jersey on a white jersey and just mowed them down. We set goals at the beginning of the week, and we accomplished them all. We set the goals high, and we still achieved them."

As impressive as No.1 Greencastle was offensively, the defense was equal to the task, limiting Shippensburg's two running back - both weighing at least 200 pounds - to 62 yards rushing and 70 yards of total offense.

"Anytime we get a shutout, we're pleased," said Blue Devils coach Chuck Tinninis. "We gang-tackled a lot, but at times we weren't pleased with the way we tackled. That's something we have to work on."

After allowing Shippensburg (0-5, 0-2 MPC) 20 yards rushing in the game's first series - nearly a third of their total for the game - the Blue Devils (5-0, 2-0 MPC) wasted little time denting the scoreboard, with Jemison rumbling 46 yards for a 7-0 lead on Greencastle's fifth play from scrimmage.

Less than three minutes later, the area's second-leading rusher took a Joe Windle shovel pass 72 yards, and the rout was on.

Jemison added rushing touchdowns of 74 and 34 yards before being relegated to the sidelines with a 48-0 advantage.

But the Blue Devils didn't stop with Jemison on the sidelines. Daniel Chlebowski connected with Sean Fitz for a 37-yard TD pass midway through the fourth period, and Gavin Strait finished the scoring with a two-yard jaunt with 17 seconds left.

"I thought our offense was efficient and our execution was there for the most part," said Tinninis. "We were hoping we would get up early, and get the JVs in. Those were two of our goals at the beginning of the week, but I didn't know we would score that many points."
