Martin D. Lapole

GAPLAND - Martin Douglas Lapole, 72, of 3341 Gapland Road, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 24, 1928, in Keedysville, he was the son of the late Billie Gardner and Thelma Miller Lapole.

He retired from Pre Heat Welding Co. in Rockville, Md., as a machinist.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Jones Lapole; two sons, Gary Lapole of Frederick, Md., and Brian Lapole of Hagerstown; three sisters, Isabelle Mongan and Beverly Negley, both of Boonsboro, and Barb Miller of Williamsport; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St. in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Wendell McClellan will officiate. Burial will be in Old Brethren Cemetery in Brownsville.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 9 a.m. for the convenience of friends.




Ina F. Leasure

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Ina Fergerson Leasure, 73, of Huntsville and formerly of Maryland, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at Crestwood Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Forrest and Myrtle Fergerson.

She is survived by a daughter, Alesa Naymon of Hazel Green, Ala.; a son, David Wayne Ray of Hancock; a sister, Inez Fergerson Jones of Huntsville; two brothers, Leo Fergerson and Alvin Fergerson, both of Huntsville; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger E. Ray, and a brother, Houston Fergerson.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 18, at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville. The Rev. Wayne Mardis officiated. Burial was in Walker Cemetery.




Gladys A. Ferguson

QUINCY, Pa. - Gladys A. Tharp Ferguson, 95, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home and formerly of 223 Barnett Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at the nursing home.

Born Dec. 11, 1904, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Herman J. and Dorothy Keckler Tharp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter K. Ferguson, in 1981. They were married Oct. 27, 1927.

She retired as a racker at Waynesboro Knitting Mill after 25 years of service.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, where she was a member of Adult Sunday School Class.

She was a member of Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, Sunshine Leisure Club of Smithsburg, South Chapter AARP 2977 and National AARP.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Sollenberger and Myrna A. Ferguson, both of Waynesboro; a grandson; two great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, infant Harriet Tharp, Mabel Welty and Mary Fahrney; and two brothers, Frank Tharp and Ivan Tharp.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. in Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edna E. Smith

Edna Elizabeth Smith, 86, of 17527 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born Aug. 7, 1914, in Mount Lena, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Sarah Rowe Dick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar R. Smith, in 1969.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

She was a member of West End Senior Citizens Club.

She is survived by a son, Delmar L. Head of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Straubs, Nina Grove and Catherine Head, and a brother, Charles Dick.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert S. Barton will officiate.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown.

Martha J. Bissell

Martha J. Bissell, 84, of Hagerstown and formerly of Parkville, Md., died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 2, 1916, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Miranda Bissell.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Hiss United Methodist Church in Parkville.

She is survived by a sister, Jennie Marie Williams of Parkville.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Bissell and Walter Bissell.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Evans Funeral Home, 8800 Harford Road in Parkville. Pastor Earl Ussery will officiate. Burial will be in Hiss United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
