Roundup - Knights pass by Wildcats for first victory of season


MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Chris Anderson completed 13 of 23 passes for 141 yards to lead Middletown to a 22-3 victory over No. 7 Williamsport in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League contest.

D.J. Costello carried the ball 22 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns for Middletown (1-3, 1-2). Brooks Moser had five receptions for 51 yards, while Zach Denton had four catches for 38 yards and Chad Schein gained 30 yards on three catches for the Knights.

"They worked hard in practice over the past few weeks and got rewarded tonight with a win," Middletown coach Tim Ambrose said. "It's nice to have gotten the taste of victory again."

Potomac 63, St. James 8

McLEAN, Va. - Brandon Monroe rushed for 101 yards on 13 carries, while Sid Huguenin had five carries for 81 yards, but St. James fell to Potomac.

Mo Rodriguez had seven rushes for 21 yards and a two point conversion for St. James (2-2, 1-2). Potomac, the No. 1 team in Virginia, improves to 5-1.


Brunswick 24, Smithsburg 12: Zach Kieffer and Nathan Steelman scored for the Leopards (2-1) in a loss to Brunswick (4-0).


North 4, Clear Spring 2

CLEAR SPRING - Mike Brooks scored twice on penalty kicks and Luke Mongrain and Tim Salvagno also scored as the No. 6 Hubs stayed perfect while snapping the No. 9 Blazers' five-game winning streak.

Drew Holler and Jeremy Everitts both scored for Clear Spring (5-2), which twice closed within one but couldn't avenge its season-opening loss to North (6-0). Jeremiah Johnson had 20 saves.

TJ 3, Westminster 0

FREDERICK, Md. - Joey Higbee's goal made him Thomas Johnson's all-time leading point scorer as the No. 3 Patriots dispatched Westminister in their opening Central Maryland Conference game.

Higbee has 75 points on 28 goals and 19 assists at TJ (4-2-1, 1-0-0).

Alie Basma and Brian Dudrow also scored for the Patriots, while Bryan Cain added an assist.

Walkersville 3, Brunswick 2

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Drew Daniluck assisted on all three Walkersville goals as the Lions came away with an MVAL victory. Darin Stull, Chris Hohnke and Brian Hohnke all scored for the Lions (3-4, 1-2).

Hedgesville 2, Goretti 2

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Ben Hood scored twice to rally the Gaels from a 2-0 deficit for a tie on the road against the No. 8 Eagles.

David Savino and Steve Kamas had assists for Goretti (3-7-1) and Tyler Weneck had 20 saves.

Brian Anger and Justin Traughter scored on assists from Patrick Miller for Hedgesville (6-4-2). Travis Hines had nine saves.

Jefferson 7, Musselman 0

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Eric Brown had a hat trick and Scott Bucey had four assists for the Cougars (4-6-1). Kris Rata had a goal and an assist and Matt Boyer, Issac Wisniewski and Terry Walker also scored for Jefferson.

Cumb. Valley 6, Waynesboro 1

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Zach Tanner scored the only goal for Waynesboro (4-6) on a penalty kick.

Greencastle 8, Susquenita 1

COVE, Pa. - Shuaiming Peng had two goals and two assists and John Bitner had a hat trick as the No. 2 Blue Devils cruised to a Mid Penn Colonial win Wednesday.

Justin Blair also scored twice and Micah Laughlin scored once for Greencastle (8-2, 3-0). Josh Meketa had three assists and Scott Yohn also had an assist.


Boonsboro 1, Brunswick 0

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Boonsboro won on an unassisted goal by Ashley Gossert. The Warriors (2-3-1, 2-1-1) outshot the Railroaders, 12-2. Brunswick goalie Shanon Hough had six saves.

Martinsburg 3, Clear Spring 1

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Cassie Czaja scored twice and Jami Orlando added an insurance goal as the Bulldogs (8-5-1, 3-2-1) rallied from a halftime deficit for an Apple Valley League victory.

Tawnya Blair scored on an assist from Lauren Ebersole, while Amy Mills had 19 saves for the Blazers (2-4, 1-1).


Williamsport 3, South 1

WILLIAMSPORT - Danielle Munson had 19 kills, eight blocks and 17 digs as the No. 3 Wildcats won 15-4, 4-15, 15-6, 15-4 to set up a Monocacy Valley Athletic League showdown with No. 1 Smithsburg on Monday.

Kristine Porac added 28 assists and 14 service points and Meggie Miller had 10 kills and 15 digs for Williamsport (6-0).

Allison Wine had seven blocks and seven kills for South Hagerstown (2-5). Cara Crouse had 14 assists, while Ashley Reeder and Angie Dietrich added four kills each. JV: Williamsport, 2-0.

Boonsboro 3, Clear Spring 0

BOONSBORO - Tara Myers had 10 assists for the Blazers as they lost to the Warriors, 15-9, 15-5, 15-8.

Sara Barr had four service points and six kills, Mona Wenker had five kills and Ariann Rowe had six service points for Clear Spring.

Mandy Binder had eight kills, six service points and three blocks for Boonsboro (5-3). Leah Easterday had eight kills, six blocks and six service points, while Katie Ambrose added eight kills and 11 service points.
