Anniversary announcements for 9/30

The Fastles

On July 1, 2000, Boyd "Bud" and Wanda (Spear) Fastle of Hagerstown were surprised with a dinner and family gathering in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary at the DanDee Restaurant in Frederick, Md. Twenty-four friends and family members attended the event.

Among other gifts, the Fastles received a memory book and Family Heritage book.

Prior to their anniversary, the Fastles enjoyed a month-long vacation, driving across the country to the West Coast, sight-seeing and visiting with friends, relatives and classmates in 20 states.

The Fastles were married July 3, 1950, in Casper, Wyo.

Mr. Fastle worked for Western Union, and his work took them into many states to live before settling down in Maryland in 1968. He retired in 1979 after 31 years of service.


Mrs. Fastle worked for 11 years at Maugansville Elevator and Lumber Co., and retired from Frederick Memorial Hospital in 1993.

The Fastles have two daughters, Kathy and Eva, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

The Gambys

Larry and Joyce Gamby of Hagerstown were recently honored on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

The Gamby's were married July 2, 1950.

The celebration, a musical concert, was hosted by the Gambys' four children and their families. Several musicians from the area performed classical instrumental, vocal and contemporary pieces.

Family and friends attended the event from as far away as Scottsdale, Ariz., and Atlanta.

The Souths

Bill and Grace South celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, with family and friends at a surprise dinner in their honor at Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Hagerstown.

The Souths were married Sept. 2, 1950, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, Pa., by the Rev. Eugene O'Malley Bradley.

The celebration was hosted by their children and spouses, Steve South of Funkstown, Cindy and Howie Hoffman of Kissimmee, Fla., Mark and Ricki South of Brandon, Fla., Jim and Tina South of Hagerstown, and Dave and Kathy South of Greencastle, Pa.

Mr. South retired from Lowes Inc. in 1996. Mrs. South was employed by Alan Shoes for 20 years.

The Souths have seven grandchildren, who were all present.
