Roundup - Piper leads 'Cats past Leopards


WILLIAMSPORT - Jessica Piper scored on an assist from Skyler Sanders to lead Williamsport to a 2-1 win over Smithsburg in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League match on Wednesday.

Morgan Church scored in the 43rd minute to give Smithsburg (5-2, 2-2) a 1-0 lead, but Brooke Weimer tied the score on a penalty kick.

Goalie Lindsey Dellinger had six saves for the Wildcats (3-2-1, 1-2-1).

Jefferson 3, Mercersburg Academy 0

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Lindsay Edwards, Erin Bradley and Laura McIlroy each scored a goal for Jefferson (6-1-2) in a shutout over Mercersburg Academy (1-4).


Smithsburg 2, Walkersville 1

SMITHSBURG - Matt McDougal scored the game-winning goal to give Smithsburg its first win of the season in the MVAL.

David McDougal scored the other goal for Smithsburg (1-5, 1-1). Brandon Rethemyer had 20 saves for the winners.

Darin Stull had the only goal for Walkersville (2-4, 0-2). Andrew Lebo had 15 saves.


Middletown 5, FSK 0

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Mark Bucheimer, Ross Cherish, Luiz Araujo, Jon Kisas and Matt Becker all scored for Middletown.

Mike Buzard, Chris Greene and Araujo each had an assist for the Knights (2-5, 1-2).

Chambersburg 1, Mechanicsburg 1

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Kevin Rowland scored on an assist from Ryan Richards as Chambersburg (7-3-1) salvaged a tie with Mechanicsburg.

Boonsboro 5, Highland View 0

BOONSBORO - Robbie Pongratz had a hat trick and an assist, Chris Lantz had a goal and an assist, Brandon Burley had a goal and Journey Nicodemus added an assist for Boonsboro (3-2).

Highland View falls to 4-2-2.


Hancock 3, Berkeley Springs 0

HANCOCK - Lacey McCusker had 16 service points, eight aces and 10 kills as Hancock swept Berkeley Springs, 15-10, 15-6, 15-10.

Bethany Sterner had 12 points, five aces and six assists and Alicia Barnard had seven service points, four aces and 10 kills for the Panthers (4-3).

Smithsburg 3, Middletown 0

SMITHSBURG - Jenelle Stouffer went 15-for-15 serving to score 13 points and hand out 18 assists to lead No. 1 Smithsburg to a 25-minute, 15-5, 15-1, 15-2 sweep of Middletown.

Smithsburg (7-0, 4-0) got 13 kills and five blocks from Heather Ashley while Lauren Richards had six kills and two blocks.

JV: Smithsburg, 15-1, 15-4 (21st straight match win).


South 26, Williamsport 13: Mike Campbell scored two touchdowns and had two interceptions to lead South Hagerstown over Williamsport. Jamel Smith and Eric Hammond also scored for the Rebels.


Middletown 28, Boonsboro 6

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Quarterback Tyler Lushbaugh threw for 81 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 135 yards, Dan McQuillen scored two touchdowns and John Kemeig returned a punt 30 yards for a touchdown for Middletown (3-1).

Ryan Moul shot a 34 to lead St. James to a victory over Hedgesville at Black Rock Golf Course.

Seth Moul shot a 39 while Brain Clark led Hedgesville with a 44.

Justin Young shot a 42 as Highland View edged St. John's at Prospect Hall at Beaver Creek.
