Cops say Pa. man was in stolen vehicle

SCOTLAND, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police said a Chambersburg, Pa., man was taken into custody Wednesday after being stopped in a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Police said Christopher Scheidegger, 32, was charged with receiving stolen property. According to the report, a vehicle belonging to First Impressions Inc. of Shippensburg, Pa., had been reported stolen to the Mid-Cumberland Valley Regional Police Department on Thursday.

According to the report, the vehicle was stopped at Exit 8 of Interstate 81 at 8:17 p.m.

Man swerves to miss tire tread, rolls car

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A Hagerstown man was injured when he lost control of his car Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 81, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police said Dirk W. Coble, 47, was driving south in Antrim Township at 4:32 p.m. when he swerved to avoid a section of truck tire tread in the road. The 1994 Saturn went into the median and rolled over, police said. Coble's injuries were minor, police said.

Prisoner walks away from work release

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Franklin County (Pa.) Prison inmate who had escaped previously was on the lam again Thursday after walking away from a work release assignment, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Ryan Anthony Stiver, 20, arrived at his work release job at the Quality Inn on Wayne Avenue in Chambersburg, Pa. at 2:30 p.m. but didn't return to the prison at 9 p.m. as required, police said.

Police said he is considered dangerous and may have a weapon.

He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 165 pounds, with brown hair with blond highlights and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, police said.

Letters found in his cell indicated he may be traveling with friends and heading toward State College, Pa.

The last time he escaped he went to West Virginia, police said.
