CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Waynesboro, Pa., woman charged with attempting to kill her husband waived mandatory arraignment Wednesday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and entered a plea of not guilty.

Patricia Gardenhour, 67, was charged by Washington Township Police with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person in a shooting at her house on Aug. 8, according to court records. Her case was scheduled for the November trial term, Assistant District Attorney Angela Krom said.

Gardenhour, of 926 Eastland Road, remains in Franklin County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bond.

Her husband, Eugene Gardenhour, 68, was released from York (Pa.) Hospital on Sept. 8. His injuries included gunshot wounds to the face, chest, side and leg.

According to testimony at her Aug. 17 preliminary hearing beofre District Justice Larry Pentz, Gardenhour allegedly tried to electrocute her husband by throwing an electric hairdryer into the bathtub while he was bathing.

Eugene Gardenhour was then shot three times while in the tub and twice more as he fled through the back door of their home. "She thinks I'm having an affair," Gardenhour told police shortly after the shooting, according to preliminary hearing testimony.

"Did I kill him?" Patricia Spangler allegedly asked neighbor William Spangler after the shooting, according to his Aug. 17 testimony.

Police found a five-shot .38-caliber handgun in the bushes behind the Gardenhour's house. According to police records, all the rounds had been fired.

The attempted homicide and aggravated assault charges are both first-degree felonies with maximum penalties of 20 years in prison, according to the Pennsylvania Crimes Code. Recklessly endangering another person is a second-degree felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years.
