Local roundup - Williamsport girls power past North

Danielle Munson had 18 kills and 10 blocks Monday to lead Williamsport to a 15-6, 15-9, 9-15, 15-12 victory over North Hagerstown.

Kristine Porac had 51 assists. Stephanie Guralitz had 21 service points as Meggie Miller had 14 kills for Williamsport (6-0, 5-0).

North (3-3) was led by Nicole Morgan's 27 assists and five kills and Casey Breslin's seven kills. Michelle Levin's seven kills, two aces and 13 digs.

Middletown 3, Walkersville 0

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Mandy Harshman had 19 assists and Amanda Kaufman had 12 kills, eight assists and four aces to lead Middletown (3-3).

Abby Burtner had four saves to lead the Middletown defense.

JV: Middletown 15-3, 8-15, 15-8.

Southern Fulton 2, Bedford 0

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Kelly True had three kills and Tia Hixon had 10 service points to lead Southern Fulton (4-5) over Bedord, 15-13, 15-9.

Brittany Mellot had five dinks for Southern Fulton.

JV: Southern Fulton, 15-10, 11-15, 15-10.

Waynesboro 2, Greencastle 0

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Greencastle fell to 6-1 overall in a non-league defeat.

Highland View 3, Shen. Valley 2

Christy Bennett led Highland View Academy with 14 kills, 10 digs, 16 service points and 10 aces to lead Highland View to a 9-15, 15-2, 13-15, 15-11, 16-14 victory over Shenandoah Valley Christian.

Amber Morrison had 15 kills, four digs, two blocks, seven service points and one ace for HVA (6-3). Lauren Nudd had eight kills, six digs, three blocks, 14 service points, and two aces for Highland View.

Boonsboro 3, Catoctin 0

THURMONT, Md. - Leah Easterday had 28 assists and eight kills while Mandy Binder had 14 service points with two aces and eight kills to lead Boonsboro to a 15-9, 15-11, 15-5 victory over Catoctin.

Katie Ambrose added 11 service points with two aces and 16 kills for the Warriors (4-3). Kelly Baldwin scored seven service points with one ace, eight kills and six digs.

Sara Helmick had five kills and Larin Canella had six service points for Catoctin (1-5). Heather Sharpes had four kills.

JV: Boonsboro, 15-7, 17-15.

Broadfording 3, Faith 0

Vanessa Ruffin had eight kills and Michelle Moore added seven aces to lead led Broadfording (3-3) to a win over Faith. Sara Goggin had six hits and three kills for Broadfording while Sheryl Higgins had six aces.

Goretti 5, St. James 0

ST. JAMES - Bobbie Johnson scored two goals and two assists leading St. Maria Goretti over St. James in an Apple Valley League game.

Meggan McGill, Colleen McGarity and Erin Johnson also scored goals and Valerie Cushwa had two assists for Goretti (8-0-1, 5-0).

Lauren Costello and Janet McCullough combined for the shutout. Meghan Harmon made eight saves for St. James.

Rams' Murphy wins honor

PRINCETON, W.Va. - Forward Chrissy Murphy made Shepherd College history when was named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's player of the week for Sept. 18-24.

The Woodbine, Md., freshman became the first Shepherd women's soccer player to earn the weekly honor. She scored five goals last week.

Murphy scored four goals in an 11-2 rout of WVU-Tech. The win was the first official WVIAC win for the first-year Shepherd program.

Samson champs crowned

Barbara Barnowich and Jimmy Brown were named top lifters in the first Pocket Samsons Natural Athletic Strength Association U.S. Bench Press and Arm Curl Championships held last weekend at Hagerstown's Gold's Gym.

Barnowich won the 119-pound division to be named the Best Female Lifter. Jimmy Brown was the Best Male Lifter and took the award for the biggest bench press.

Todd Weaver won the honor of top arm curl.

Pepsi 2, O'Neill Physical Therapy 1: Gregory Lynn scored on a penalty kick and Joseph Taft scored with an assist from Ryan David for Pepsi. Tad Holzapfel scored on a penalty kick for O'Neill.
