One truck involved in the accident was carrying dynamite, said Sgt. Deke Walker of the West Virginia State Police.

Another truck, loaded with 45,000 gallons of milk, was ruptured and began spilling part of its load, Walker said. A third truck's fuel tank ruptured, spilling gasoline, he said.

I-81 Collision"It was a mess," Walker said.

The situation developed about 11:30 a.m. when two tractor-trailers collided, police said. One truck was driven by Kenneth Lehman, 41, of Bridge Water, Va., and a second was driven by Carroll Bond, 56, of Fayetteville, Ark. Both trucks slid across the median, and ended up all or partially laying in the southbound lanes.

Five vehicles in the southbound lane, two tractor-trailers, the truck carrying dynamite and two cars slowed to avoid hitting the overturned tractor trailers. They were then hit by a tractor-trailer driven by Albert J. Williams Jr., 24, Sylvania, Ga., Walker said.

All those taken to City Hospital where they were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

They included Lehman; Williams; Gary Wayne Key, 44, of Memphis, Tenn.; Danny L. Richmond, 39, of Uniontown, Pa.; Latrese Williams, no age given, and Shommond Williams, 2, both of Sylvania, Ga.; Tammy M. Little, 24, of Charlotte, N.C.; Michael Tonkin, 29, and Erin Tonkin, two months, both of Charlotte, N.C.

Another person, Gregory Elmy, 35, of Hagerstown, was taken to Washington County Hospital and released, Walker said.

Lehman was cited by state police for having defective equipment, Walker said. Williams was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, he said.
