Margaret E. Coolidge

ROHRERSVILLE - Margaret Ellen Coolidge, 87, of 20100 Rohrersville School Road, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born June 7, 1913, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Louis R. and Margaret Nettie Cunningham Cannon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund B. Coolidge, in 1966.

She was first employed at People's Drug Store; then at Dede's Diner in Quince Orchard, Md. as a waitress for 30 years.

She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Rohrersville.

She is survived by two nieces, Yvonne C. Seekins of Rohrersville and Mary S. Prassina of Catonsville, Md.; and a nephew, Thomas C. Bland of Temucula, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Cannon; and a niece, Ruth A. Beall.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery in Rohrersville. The Revs. Patricia Drake and Carolyn Boyce will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown.




George H. Lowry

MONT ALTO, Pa. - George Henry Lowry, 80, of 5360 Anthony Highway, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pa.

Born March 21, 1920, in Duffield, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Willliam and Mary Grace Henry Lowry.

He was a 1938 graduate of Quincy High School.

A farmer and orchardist, he took over the family farms in Mont Alto.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mont Alto.

He was a member of Mont Alto Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Flo I. Bakner Lowry; a daughter, Sandra Hospelhorn of Waynesboro; two granddaughters, Sharon Martin of South Mountain, Pa. and Deanna Reed of Waynesboro; a great-grandson; a stepgreat-grandson; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion L. Brown; and a brother, John A. Lowry.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. in Waynesboro. The Rev. Robert L. Basom will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Mont Alto.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Joseph O. Bitner

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Joseph Oliver Bitner, 65, of Hedgesville, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at his home.

Born Feb. 1, 1935, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Riley Daniel and Loretta Susan Warrenfeltz Bitner.

He was a carpenter and construction worker.

He was a veteran.

He was a member of Church of the Brethren in St. James.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Bradley Bitner; a daughter, Carla Jo Bitner at home; three stepdaughters, Regina L. Merson of Leetown, W.Va., Christina R. Fraley of Inwood, W.Va. and Melanie D. Merson of Hagerstown; a stepson, Brian Earl Merson Jr. of Hedgesville; five sisters, Ruth Smith, Blanche M. Ebersole and Margaret J. Miles, all of Hagerstown, Evelyn Keebaugh of South Carolina and Mary Coquesia Domer of Florida; two brothers, Walter Bitner of Hagerstown and Omer Bitner of Hedgesville; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Bitner and Riley Bitner; and three stepbrothers, Orville Bitner, Ray Bitner and Earl Bitner.

Private services will be held at the home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Florence L. Beatty

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Florence Lucille Beatty, 91, of 1201 Maple Terrace Lane, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Frederick Health Care Center in Frederick, Md.

Born July 1, 1909, in Lovettsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Denzil Elwood and Maude Virginia Smith Rust.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Asa Beatty, in 1964.

She retired in 1974 from Frederick Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk, then worked as a nurses aide.

She was a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lovettsville.

She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 660 of Brunswick; a member and past district deputy and grand chief of Pythian Sisters of Maryland Century Temple 4 of Brunswick.

She is survived by three sisters, Virginia Embrey of Lovettsville, Kathleen Brown of Frederick and Juanita Perry of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter; a grandson; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty J. Price; three brothers, Elwood S. Rust, Lee Foley Rust and Mason C. Rust; and a grandson.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road in Brunswick. The Rev. Ray W. Michener will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Lovettsville.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
