Saturday roundup- Blue Storm goes to 2-0


SALTZBURG, Pa. - Mike Flanagan scored four straight touchdowns, and Kyle Fields threw four TD passes - three to Fields - as the Blue Storm moved to 2-0 season with a 51-16 victory Saturday over the Kiski School.

Sheanon Summers also returned an interception 84 yards for a touchdown for Mercersburg.

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - June Marquiss eight blocks and 14 kills to lead the Blue Storm to a 15-12, 15-10, 13-15, 15-5 victory. Sarah Nusairat also had 20 points on 28-for-28 serving for Mercersburg (3-0). JV: Jefferson, 15-1, 15-1.


Sandy Springs 5, St. James 0

OLNEY, Md. - St. James fell to 0-3 as Hannah Austin, Tara Gross, Sam Grace, Becky Harrison, and Kamisa Mort each had one goal. Snady Springs outshot St. James, 9-3. St. James goalkeeper Meghan Harmon had two saves.


Linganore 3, Jefferson 2

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Joe Dumer scored off an assist from Scott Bucey and Matt Boyer converted a penalty kick for Jefferson (2-4-1), but the Cougars lost a two-goal lead to run its winless streak to four. Mark Durbin had five saves for Jefferson, which outshot the Lancers, 26-12.

Goretti 3, Smithsburg 0

SMITHSBURG - Ben Hood scored twice and David Savino converted a penalty kick to give the Gaels (1-5) their first win of the season. Tommy Wills and Jay Gill assisted on Hood's goals and Tyler Weneck had five saves for Goretti. Brandon Rethemayer had 14 saves for the Leopards (0-4).

Blair (N.J.) 1, Mercersburg 0

MERCERBURG, Pa. - Blair scored with three minutes to go in the second overtime to ruin the Blue Storm's Mid-Atlantic Prep League debut. Mercersburg (2-2, 0-1) outshot Blair, 12-9, and Chris Balaban had eight saves.

HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Lynette Souders scored the game's only goal for Forbes Road. Molly Twine made 15 saves for St. James (1-3).

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Katie Bibb scored as Mercersburg Academy fell to 0-2.


HCC men finish third

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Alex McAbee finished ninth overall in a time of 27 minutes, 47 seconds to lead the Hawks to a third place finish at the Western Maryland Invitational with 117 points. Chris Pereschuk (28:17) was 13th, John McKinley (30:23) was 34th, Anthony Robinson (30:39) was 38th and Brad Mentzner (30:53) was 42nd.

Shepherd women 3rd

ELKINS, W.Va. - Behind overall winner Elizabeth Lowrie, the Shepherd women finished third at the Mountain State Forest Festival, hosted by Davis & Elkins. Lowrie finished in 21:22, followed by Tiffany Moskel (13th, 23:10); Jeaneatte Wilson (23rd, 23:37); Rebecca Keeney (30th, 24:12) and Marsha Soergel (38th, 24:37).

The Shepherd men finished 11th out of 15 teams. Danny Channell led the way in 32:28, good for 55th place.
