Boonsboro stuns Brunswick

BRUNSWICK, Md. - The Boonsboro Warriors searched for an easy way out.

The Warriors weren't about to give up after last week's loss to Liberty but coach Clayton Anders knew there had to be a better way ... an easier way ... to do things.

Boonsboro went back to the A,B,Cs and ended up defeating Brunswick almost as easy as 1-2-3, using a strong second half to derail the Railroaders 28-3 on Friday.

"The kids were really upset with the way we played last week," Anders said. "We tried to get back to basics and execute at a higher level. The kids came out and played really well."

Basics, execution and playing well - that's 1,2,3. Fumbles, interceptions and momentum were the A,B,Cs that went against Brunswick.

The Railroaders trailed 6-3 at the half and were still in the game despite Boonsboro's ability to move the ball much of the first half.

After taking the second-half kickoff, Brunswick quarterback Marcus Smith fumbled the first snap from center, recovered by Boonsboro's Jeremiah Weddle.

The Warriors (1-1, 1-0) took four plays to score on Eddie Moten's 3-yard run. Moten followed with an interception on Brunswick's next possession that he finished off with an 8-yard scoring run turning the three-point advantage to into a 21-3 runaway.

"Our problem is turnovers," Brunswick coach Mark Mitchell said. "We have fumbled the ball 10 times in the first two games and lost six of them (four of six on Friday).

"That's too many mistakes. We have the talent, but we haven't put things together yet."

Brunswick took a 3-0 lead on Chris Owens' 26-yard field goal, but quickly the advantage when Boonsboro quarterback Chris Wright ran in from the 8 on the Warriors next possession with 1:51 remaining in the first quarter.

Boonsboro's final score came on a 1-yard run by backup quarterback Chris Sklencar late in the fourth quarter.

"Our defense played well," Anders said. "We played the pass better and we got a couple of goal line stops and we didn't make any mistakes in the kicking game. We made a lot of positive plays off their miscues."
