Red Cross issues emergency appeal, blood donations needed

The American Red Cross has issued its second emergency appeal for blood in three months.

Blood use over the summer was up over last summer and the number of donations is low, according to the Red Cross's Blood Services program.

The district that includes the Tri-State region has a one-day supply of types O-positive and A-positive blood, one-third of what it needs, the Red Cross said.

There are 1 1/2 to 2 days worth of Rh negative blood, including O-negative, the Red Cross said.

The Red Cross bloodmobile will appear at the following places to accept blood donations:

Tomahawk Elementary School, Hedgesville, W.Va., Friday, Sept. 15, 2 to 7 p.m.

Williamsport American Legion, Williamsport, Md., Monday, Sept. 18, 1 to 7 p.m.

Northern Avenue American Legion, Hagerstown, Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1 to 6 p.m.

Shepherd College ballroom, Shepherdstown, W.Va., Wednesday, Sept. 20, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
