BZA to vote on adult foster care proposal

The Hagerstown Board of Zoning Appeals is expected to vote Wednesday on a request to establish an adult foster care home at 441-443 Ridge Ave.

Faith Foltz, who operates a home with her husband from their Maugansville home, wants to move the operation into the Hagerstown house. She said they are trying to move because they rent their current home and the owner wants to sell the property.

Foltz said they would have four to six clients in the home. Their clients are placed with them through the Washington County Department of Social Services and the Maryland Mental Health Authority, she said.

Foltz described her clients as people who don't need to be in a nursing home but do need some help, such as with cooking meals and making sure they get to doctor appointments.

Foltz said she needs the zoning board's approval to receive an assisted living center permit.
