Elizabeth M. Taulton

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Elizabeth Mae Taulton, 65, of Charles Town, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born April 16, 1935, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nettie Hardy Spates.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James William "Willie" Taulton, in 1988.

She had been employed by The Wishing Well Restaurant in Charles Town.

She attended Mannings Assembly of God Church in Harpers Ferry.

She is survived by three daughters, Trudy Brown of Woodstock, Va., Tammy S. Taulton and Debra L. Printz, both of Charles Town; a sister, Eleanor Albert of Frederick, Md.; a brother, Floyd F. Spates of Harpers Ferry; a granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Spates and Franklin Spates.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. James Boyce will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens Cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




James M. Funk Jr.

INWOOD, W.Va. - James M. Funk Jr., 81, of Inwood, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at his home.

Born May 4, 1919, in Hardy County, W.Va., he was the son of the late James F. and Amanda Miller Funk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Almetta McCarty Funk.

He was a retired carpenter.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by four daughters, Barbara Mason and Sharon Cooper, both of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Martha Frye and Connie DeHaven, both of Inwood; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Hazel Combs, Ruby Funk, Dale Funk and Hermia Hansrote; and two brothers, Howard Funk and Elmer Funk.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Louis Whitford will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elisabeth W. Kozek

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Elisabeth W. Kozek, 82, of Keyes Ferry Acres, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at her home.

Born March 2, 1918, in Kozel, Germany, she was the daughter of the late August and Maltida Waschke Wolchnik.

She was a graduate of Kozel High School; and Fashion Design School in Berlin, Germany. She studied art and painting in South Africa and the United States. She attended Art Academy in Los Angeles and Hawaii.

She was a fashion designer, painter and artist working throughout Europe and the United States. Much of her designs are placed in New York City.

She attended St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, W.Va.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Lech Kozek.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. A vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. with the Rev. John Ledford officiating.

Burial will be private.

Mildred M. Barkdoll Sechrist

YORK, Pa. - Mildred M. Barkdoll Sechrist, 81, of Manor Care, and formerly of 440 E. King St., died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Manor Care.

Born Feb. 15, 1919, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Belva Goetz.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles C. Barkdoll, in 1963; and by her second husband, Ralph Sechrist, in 1990.

She was a graduate of Greencastle High School.

She was a cook at Hanna Penn High School in York.

She was a member of Zion Reform Church in York.

She is survived by a son, Barry Barkdoll of Gettysburg, Pa.; and a brother, Kenneth Goetz of Greencastle.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Faye Ann Barkdoll.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.




Ausilia P. Ballarin

MARKHAM, Va. - Ausilia Penso Ballarin, 90, of Markham, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Culpeper (Va.) Health Center.

Born May 1, 1910, in Lussingrande, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Onorato and Antonia Letich Penso.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Umberto Ballarin.

She was a member of Christ Church in Warrenton, Va.

She is survived by a daughter, Marinella Vidulich of New Hyde Park, N.Y.; a son, Gino Ballarin of Markham; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by 11 sisters and brothers.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hedgesville Cemetery in Hedgesville, W.Va. The Rev. Alexander L. Darby III will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ Church, 95 Green St., Warrenton, VA 20186-3534.

James L. Hoover

James Leroy Hoover, of Avalon Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of Hagerstown, who died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, was the son of the late Roy H. and Bessie May Sprankle Hoover.
