Man charged with shooting at woman

Bond was set at $500,000 Tuesday for a Clear Spring man charged with firing a shotgun and just missing his girlfriend and her daughter Friday night after a domestic dispute at 10190 Gift Road.

Shawn Keith Gift has been charged with two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and carrying a deadly weapon with intent to injure, according to Washington County District Court records.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies David Izat and Tom Routzahn went to the Gift Road home at 6:55 p.m. for reports of a shot fired.

Pam Knotts told the deputies she and her daughter had been living at the home with Gift when he got angry and ordered them both off the property, court records said.

As they were walking away, Gift yelled that he would kill them and got a shotgun which he pointed at Pam Knotts' head and fired, according to allegations contained in court records.

The child hid behind Gift's truck while Gift allegedly continued to yell that he was going to kill them both, court records alleged.

Pam Knotts and her daughter ran to a neighbor's house where they called 911, court records said.

Bond initially was denied. Washington County District Judge Noel Spence on Tuesday agreed with prosecutors who asked that a high bond be set.

"I'm not a violent person and I've never run from anything," Gift said. "Also I have a steady job."

A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 10.
