Ralph L. Egolf Sr.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Ralph L. Egolf Sr., 84, of 11050 Punch Bowl Road, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Quincy United Methodist Home in Quincy, Pa.

Born Jan. 12, 1916, near Mercersburg, he was the son of the late J. Daniel and Barbara Wolf Egolf.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Orpha Hykes Egolf, in 1988.

He worked at Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, Pa. He later farmed in the Greencastle, Pa. and Punch Bowl areas from 1944 until 1971, when he began working for D. L. Martin Co. in Mercersburg. He retired in 1978.

He was a member of Mount Tabor Brethren in Christ Church in Mercersburg, where he was a Sunday School teacher; trustee and board member.

He is survived by three daughters, Kathleen M. Myers and Verma I. Myers, both of Greencastle, and Margaret A. Zeis of Mercersburg; six sons, J. Daniel Egolf and Harold W. Egolf, both of Greencastle, Amos E. Egolf of Waynesboro, R. Eugene Egolf of Chambersburg, Pa. and J. Lester Egolf and Ralph L. Egolf Jr., both of Mercersburg; a sister, Ruth Hornbaker of Mercersburg; two brothers, George Egolf of Hancock and John Egolf of Southern Pines, N.C.; 27 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters; five brothers; a great-grandson; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Tabor Brethren in Christ Church, 12283 Punch Bowl Road in Mercersburg. The Rev. Roy E. Brake Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave. in Mercersburg.

Elaine H. Wiles

NAPLES, Fla. - Services for Elaine H. Shockey Wiles, 81, of Naples and formerly of Hagerstown, who died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, will be Sunday, Sept. 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Northgate Community Center, 1350 Lindsay Lane in Hagerstown.




Douglas L. Rand

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Douglas L. Rand, 50, of Hedgesville, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Winchester Medical Center.

Born June 17, 1950, in Los Angeles, he was the son of Betty J. Proctor Rand of Van Nuys, Calif. and the late Raymond L. Rand.

He was a production worker for General Motors.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Cindy L. Heath and a brother, James L. Rand, both of Los Angeles.

Arrangements are being made by Jones Funeral Home in Winchester and will be announced at a later date.




Martha J. Bachtell

SMITHSBURG - Martha J. Bachtell, 69, of Smithsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at her home.

Born Aug. 24, 1931, in Cool Hollow, Md., she was the daughter of the late John T. and Bessie M. Babington Kephart.

She was employed by Mundey Jewelers in Hagerstown and Chewsville Cooperative.

She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Keeler and Alice Vetter; a niece and nephews.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

James R. Davis

James Richard Davis, 76, of 707 Forrest Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 10, 1924, in Union Bridge, Md., he was the son of the late Richard and Lelia Davis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Davis, in 1993.

He was a graduate of North Street School.

He was employed by the General Service Administration of the U.S. Government in Germantown, Md.

He served in New Guinea in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1946.

He was a member of Second Christian Church on North Street in Hagerstown.

He was a member of Progressive Mens' Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Viola King of Hagerstown; a son, James R. Davis III of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Doaks, and two brothers, Chester Davis and Sterling Davis.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Ebenzer AME Church on Bethel Street in Hagerstown. The Rev. RoseAnne Duckett will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Watson Funeral Home, 24 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown.




Kody R. Shockey

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Kody Ryan Shockey, 3, of 13881 Molly Pitcher Highway, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 11, 1996, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Virgil Brown Shockey of Hagerstown and Charlotte Lee Hause Shockey of Greencastle.

He attended Head Start at Greencastle Elementary.

He attended Harvest Baptist Church in Hagerstown and Trinity Church of God in Boonsboro.
