City man dies in accident



ARLINGTON, Va. - A Hagerstown man died after a collision which sent a car crashing into a motel in Arlington, Va., Saturday morning.

Arlington County Police said Daryl Paul Earnest, 22, of Halfway was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a Toyota Camry was attempting to make a left turn onto South Glebe Road from South 24th St. when a Volkswagen hit the Camry, sending it out of control over the sidewalk and into an unoccupied room of the Econo Lodge at 2400 S. Glebe Road.

The Volkswagen was driven by Earnest, police said. Earnest was the son of Larry P. and Kathleen Kircher Earnest of Hagerstown.

He was a 1996 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and a member of the Bethel Assembly of God in Hagerstown.

The driver of the Camry was a 34-year-old woman from Arlington, Va. She received critical injuries in the 2:15 a.m. accident. Her name was not released.

The passengers in the Camry, Jose de Jesus Madina-Hernandez, 27, and Ana Yesenia Soto, 20, both of Arlington, Va., received minor injuries and were taken to the Arlington Hospital, police said.

South Glebe Road was closed at Interstate 395 for four hours as a result of the accident, police said.

Police are continuing their investigation of the accident.
