James Buchanan loses home opener

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - The Bishop Guilfoyle Mauraders recovered six fumbles, turning them into three touchdowns Friday to lay a 28-0 rout on James Buchanan in a Pennsylvania high school football game and season openers for both teams.

Ryan Geishauser rushed for 83 yards and three touchdowns in 10 carries to lead the Mauraders, who sent James Buchanan to its 28th straight loss.

"We gave them the ball inside our 30 six times with fumbles," James Buchanan coach Kevin Gustafson said. "You can't keep doing that and expect to win. Eventually they are going to score."

The Mauraders broke up a scoreless battle when Geishauser broke over left tackle for a 2-yard touchdown with 4:12 remaining in the first half. Tom Forr added the extra point, his first of four in the game, to give Guilfoyle a 7-0 halftime lead.

Just 1:35 into the second half, Geishauser danced along left sideline for a 58-yard touchdown run. He closed out his scoring with 1:52 remaining in the third quarter on a 9-yard scoring run around left side.

"Ryan Geishauser had a real good game both offensively and defensively," Bishop Guilfoyle coach Tom Irwin. "I'm really happy for him because he has put in a lot of time and effort in getting ready for this season. I don't think if he cares about the three touchdowns, I think he cares more about this team."

Matt Steinbugl finished the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run up the middle with 8:36 remaining in the game.

The Mauraders shut down the Rockets on zero rushing yards and just 14 yards passing in 49 plays, including one completed pass.
