Eagles fall in volleyball opener


HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Hedgesville fought back from a two-game deficit to tie the match before dropping game 5 to Hampshire Thursday in the season opener for both teams.

Game scores were 15-3, 15-8, 11-15, 14-16, 15-9.

Ashley Copenhaver had 10 kills, nine service points and two blocks to lead the Eagles (0-1). Tracy Regalbuto added 15 assists and nine service points, while Kerri Spies and Keri Jackson both had eight service points.

WINCHESTER, Va. - Eduardo Bollati and Eric Martin each scored a goal to give the Tartans a win in their season opener. Will Iverson had 18 saves for the Tartans.

Jesse Hoffman shot a 41 to lead a balanced Williamsport team to victory at Beaver Creek Country Club. All six Wildcats shot in the 40s.


Jim Fortese led Boonsboro with a 41. Robbie Powell led South with a 45.

Maranatha wins title

Maranatha/Virginia Avenue Church of God won the Hagerstown Area Church League regular season with a 24-2 record and finished it off by winning the league championship this past weekend by going 5-0 in tournament play at the Pinesburg softball complex.


Wilkes helps Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. - Williamsport High School graduate Lettie Wilkes had 18 assists to lead Catawba College to a three-game sweep of Pfeiffer, 15-6, 15-6 and 15-3.

Catawba ups its record to 4-2. Pfeiffer is 0-6.
