Heavenly HarmonyThe musical group Heavenly Harmony will perform at Maugansville Pride Day Saturday, Sept. 2.

The group, which has been singing together for about five years, is based at First Christian Church in Hagerstown and performs primarily Christian music for a variety of events. It has sung at assisted-living centers and nursing homes, community festivals and occasional banquets, according to Robin Byers, an alto in the group.

Heavenly Harmony will open the Maugansville festival with "The Star Spangled Banner," which is new to its repertoire. The program usually includes some old hymns, contemporary tunes and Southern gospel music. The singers will present "Snap To It," a jazzy tune that is different from its usual fare.

The group will close the program, as it does most others, with "Majesty Medley," Byers said.

Heavenly Harmony performed a Broadway program once on request, but realized "That's not really where our heart is," Byers said.

The group also includes Vicki Lumm, Sandy Minor, Brenda Plummer, Denny Taylor, Toby Smith, Donnie Richardson and Brad Byers. Teresa Beck recently began singing with the group. Eric Bowman is the accompanist, and Cindy Shank is substitute pianist.

Heavenly Harmony will travel south Saturday, Sept. 16, and Sunday, Sept. 17, to perform a two-hour concert in Eminence, Ky. That's where former group members Greg Ott and his wife, Peggy, live. Greg Ott is completing his last year in seminary and is student pastor of a church there.
