Shooting death investigated



FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Police Department was investigating the shooting death of a Frederick man in an alley near the intersection of Maryland and Virginia avenues Wednesday morning.

Police said the shooting was reported at 3:11 a.m. and that the victim was at an apartment on Sager Drive.

Rescue crews took John Earl Hill Jr., 26, of the 400 block of Broadway in Frederick to Frederick Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:15 a.m.

The body was later taken to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, police said.

During a search of the crime scene police found spent shell casings from a .380-caliber weapon. A small-caliber handgun was found within 25 to 30 yards of the shell casings, police said.

Police said they would like to talk to anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting. Police can be contacted at 301-694-2100.
