Friday's local roundup - Thomas' 37 leads Northern Garrett


FROSTBURG, Md. - A.J. Thomas shot a 37 to lead Northern Garrett to a quad-meet victory at Maplehurst Golf Course on Thursday.

Northern Garrett finished with 170, while Berkeley Springs finished second with 198. Moorefield finished third, one shot behind the Indians, and Beall finished fourth with 207.

Mike Mahais shot 41 for Moorefield and Steve Potter posted a 42 to lead Berkeley Springs.


Hagerstown Church Softball

Gateway 22, Williamsport Assembly 4: Randy Edwards and Kevin Hose hit grand slams and Ed Martin, Tim Hose and Jose DeJesus homered to lead Gateway.

New Life 27, Nazarene 10: Steve Pryor had five hits to lead New Life. Peter Guadalupe had four hits and John Davidson had two hits, including a home run.


Grace 18, Tri-State 17: Kenny Shanholtz and Brian Koontz had four hits as Grace squeezed past Tri-State. Larry Eichelberger and Matt Ott added three hits for the winners.

Fred. Co. Softball

Braddock Motors/Suds Shop won the A Division title of the Frederick County Slo-Pitch League Wednesday with a 24-10 win over the Diamondbacks.

The victory gave Braddock Motors a sweep of the league's regular season and season-opening tournament titles as it finished 51-6.

Brett Livingston, Rocky Wills, Mick Byers, Jeff Reynolds and Rick Grove all hit .700, while Bill Bakner, John Fowler, Glen Himes, John Hartle, Buck Chrisman and Steve McKimmy hit more than .600.

Braddock Motors will be playing in the ISA World Series in Montgomery, Ala., this weekend.


Blumenberg scores ace

Jeff Blumenberg, of Hagerstown, scored a hole-in-one Thursday using a sand wedge on the 135-yard par-3 fourth hole at Municipal Golf Course.

Blumenberg, who shot a 34 for nine holes, was playing with his son, Wesley Blumenberg.
