Police log Aug. 26



Participants in a party that broke up just before 2 a.m. Friday got into a melee in the 200 block of East Washington Street that led to four arrests, including one charging assault on a police officer.

According to Hagerstown City Police, the partygoers met up with some other people and had a disagreement. Police were called when neighbors began to hear the dispute.

When police arrived to break up the fights, some drugs were found, police said.

- A 17-year-old boy was charged with failure to obey a police officer, second-degree assault on Officer Wayne Zimmerer and minor in possession of alcohol. He was released to his parents.

- Robert Steven Smith, 21, of 67 E. Antietam St., was charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Smith was being held Friday night at the Washington County Detention Center on $40,000 bond.

- John Samuel Dimarino Jr., 20, of 67 E. Antietam St., was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Dimarino was being held Friday night on $5,000 bond.

- Troy Michael Butts, 19, of 112 E. Antietam St., was charged with disorderly conduct, failure to obey, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Butts was released Friday on personal recognizance.




A car was deliberately set on fire in the parking lot at Pangborn Corp. early Thursday morning, according to Hagerstown Fire Marshal John Hersh.

The 1991 Buick Century belongs to David Alan Kline Jr., who told Hersh he was there with friends earlier and returned to find his car on fire.

The fire call went out at 1:58 a.m. and firefighters from Junior and Pioneer Hook and Ladder companies responded to the scene.

When the car was checked, it was determined the vehicle had been vandalized and then set on fire.

The loss was set at $4,000, Hersh said.




Thieves took two ornamental flags and two flag poles Thursday from a home in the 11000 block of Coffman Avenue in Halfway, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

Stolen were a birthday flag worth $15, a Mickey Mouse at the beach flag worth $40 and two poles worth $16, deputies said.




Two speakers were taken from a vehicle parked on the lot at Advantage Towing, 500 Frederick St., Wednesday, according to Hagerstown City Police.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department is looking for information about a car stolen Wednesday by someone with a tow truck.

Witnesses saw a blue or white rollback tow truck pick up the blue 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 four-door passenger car and tow it from the Woodbridge subdivision, police said.

The car was parked in the 11400 block of Fawnbridge Drive.

Several Christmas ornaments, shrubs and a shrubbery cart were stolen from TG Designs on Longmeadow Road this week, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The theft occurred between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

A Greencastle, Pa., man was charged with intent to distribute marijuana Friday after police found 114 grams of suspected marijuana in his car, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Jason Lee Keckler, 18, of 15274 Bowman Court, also was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Keckler was stopped in a 1980 Ford Festiva on Shinham Road just north of Md. 58 for a traffic stop, police said.

The marijuana was found in the glove box, police said.

Keckler was being held Friday night at the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.




FREDERICK - A Frederick man was charged with two counts of possessing child pornography Friday night after Maryland State Police seized evidence from his home.

Michael McKenzie Day, 28, of the 5600 block of Boone Avenue, was taken to a District Court Commissioner Friday night for a bond hearing, according to Maryland State Police.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the state police's Computer Crimes Unit. Police seized two computers and a VHS movie containing suspected child pornography from Day's home, police said.




MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Martinsburg man was sentenced Thursday to 5 years and 10 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to distributing crack cocaine in Berkeley County, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Clyde Lewis Morris Jr. pled guilty May 23 to distributing 1.08 grams of crack on July 20, 1998, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.




FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - A lock was cut Thursday from a chain securing a 1999 KTM 50 CC motorcycle from a residence on U.S. 522 just south of Pa. 76, according to Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg, Pa.
