Gertrude M. Schindel

Gertrude Meisel Schindel, 66, formerly of 18415 Woodside Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born Feb. 3, 1934, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late John and Rachael Espey Meisel.

She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and her master's degree from Western Maryland College.

She taught at Hagerstown High School; and at Boonsboro High School from 1971 to 1991, where she helped with dramatic productions and the Prom Committee.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Kate Schindel of Hagerstown and Claire Parks of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a son, Rick Schindel of Roundrock, Texas; six grandchildren; three nephews; and her former husband, Richard Schindel of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Meisel.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, in Boonsboro. The Revs. Anne O. Weatherholt and Charles McGinley will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mark's Episcopal Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boonsboro High School Library, 10 Campus Drive, Boonsboro, MD 21713; or St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.




Kenneth M. Miller

HENDERSON, Ky. - Kenneth Melvin Miller, 56, of Henderson, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

Born April 23, 1944, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Cecil and Marie Pilsbury Miller.

He was a former member of the Hagerstown Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He is survived by a brother, Robert Dale Miller of Hagerstown; and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Hagerstown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 11507 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown. The Rev. Josephine Benton will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williamsport.

Arrangements are made by Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.




Julia A. Peterson

Julia Anne Peterson, 77, formerly of Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug 21, 2000.

She was the daughter of the late J. Earl and Anne W. Kohler.

She received her bachelor's degree from Mary Baldwin College; and her graduate degree from Smith College.

She was a psychiatric social worker with various health agencies.

She was a member of Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Wayman T. Peterson; three children, Susan K. Miller, Karen A. Mann and Kent K. Peterson; a sister, Katherine W. Huguewin; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.




Mary L. Bowers

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary L. Bowers, 88, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Sept. 30, 1911, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Vannie C. Metz Jacobs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Bowers.

She was employed by City Hospital in Martinsburg, retiring after 30 years of service.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Myers Depasquale of Oakton, Va. and Judy Atwell of Martinsburg; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Shipley.

Graveside services were Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 2:30 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Williamsport. The Rev. Paul C. Stanley officiated.

Arrangements were by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Boyd B. Butts

SILVER SPRING, Md. - Boyd Bernard "B.B." Butts, 58, of Silver Spring, died at his home.

Born June 5, 1942, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Ruth Stilwell Butts of Martinsburg and the late B. Granville Butts.

He was a senior technical representative for Xerox.

He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 778.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Lawrence E. Butts of Stephens City, Va. and M. Scott Butts of Keedysville; a sister, Deborah Lynn Dwyer of Hazlet, N.J.; a brother, James Granville Butts of Martinsburg; and a granddaughter.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Shanghai Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Virginia L. Myers

WILLIAMSPORT - Virginia Lee Floyd Myers, 69, of Williamsport, and formerly of Shipley Road, Linthicum, Md., died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

She was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Baltimore.

She was a dispatcher for Butler Aviation Co.
