Meet the Teachers Night scheduled at Maugansville


MAUGANSVILLE - Maugansville Elementary School will hold a Meet the Teachers Night at 7 p.m. today.

Parents of all students are invited to attend.

Fine arts museum offering art classes


The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown will offer the following adult art classes:

- Weaving for all Levels taught by Barbara Diefenderfer.

- Painting with Watercolor taught by Rosemary Reus.

- Watercolor Workshop taught by Bob Wantz.

- Basic Drawing taught by Mike Gouker.

The following children's classes will be offered:

- Art Experience for ages 4 to 6 taught by Kathryn Paul.

- Landscape Painting for ages 9 to 12 taught by Hilda Eiber.

- Nature Study for ages 8 to 13 taught by Hilda Eiber.

Registration is required for all classes and teenagers are welcome to register for any of the adult classes. Visit the museum's Web site at www.washcomuseum.org for general museum information. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., and closed Monday.

Halfway Lions Club to collect glasses for needy


The Lions Club of Halfway will light up the sky when members kick off the inaugural Sight Night Monday, Aug. 28, at the Old Orchard Shopping Center on Virginia Avenue.

Old eyeglasses will be collected by Miss Washington County, Julie LaPole, during part of the collection hours of 3 to 9 p.m.

The lights will be provided by the Halfway Volunteer Fire Co., which will be on hand to attract attention to the drive.

The club's goal is to collect 10,000 pair of eyeglasses to help the more than 500 million people worldwide who need glasses but can't afford them.

Lions will be on hand to discuss membership and other ways to help the organization with its community-based projects.

Job service offices to hold job fair


The Maryland Job Service and the Washington County Job Service Employer Committee will sponsor a Job Fair at Maryland Job Service, 14 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, on Thursday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Job Fair is free and open to the public. The monthly event matches job seekers with area employers who are seeking qualified job candidates.

The six featured employers for the August Job Fair are: Washington County Hospital, Citicorp, Good Humor Breyers, Davis Company, The Herald-Mail Co. and Martin's food markets.
