MAUGANSVILLE - People looking for a little piece of North End memorabilia will have a chance to find it Friday at an auction of items that the Maugansville and Long Meadow volunteer fire departments for their annual carnival.

The auction will start at 6 p.m. at the B.F. Goodrich Aerospace Building on Showalter Road.

"There's a little bit of everything," said Maugansville Assistant Chief Chris Gelwicks, who said he is disappointed that the two departments lost their traditional carnival site.

Loss of the site led to a decision to quit holding the annual carnival.

Among the largest items to go on the block are two Gindy 40-foot storage trailers and a stage. Food stands, canopies, string lights, electrical cords, tables, chairs, carts and garbage cans will also go to the highest bidders.

Five small deep-friers will be for sale along with lumber, signs and water hoses.

A roulette wheel, money wheel and other large games will be up for grabs in addition to fish tanks and small fish bowls used for a goldfish ring-toss game.

Would-be singers can bid on a karoke machine and amplifier system.

Small multi-colored flags, benches, wire racks, tarps, cleaning supplies, a leaf blower and industrial vacuum cleaner will be included in the sale.

A french fry press mounted on a 4-foot wood stand, money bags, wooden steps, adding machines, a coin rolling machine and coin wrappers will be available.

The carnival, which was jointly sponsored by the Maugansville-Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co. and the Long Meadow Volunteer Fire Co. had traditionally been held at Long Meadow Shopping Center.

Organizers decided to end the carnival after they lost their site at the shopping center and were unable to find a suitable replacement.

The final Maugansville/Long Meadow carnival was held in 1998.

The proceeds of the auction will be split between the companies, Gelwicks said.
