Musselman girls win opener



* GIRLS SOCCER


ROMNEY, W.Va. - Freshman Cassandra Dunnigan scored three goals in her first varsity game to lead Musselman to a 4-1 win over Hampshire in the season opener for the Applemen.

Kathryn Kenard scored a goald and Kelly Lickwar had an assist for Musselman (1-0), which outshot Hampshire, 21-5.

Hub City/Pinesburg Softball

Stadium Grill and Bar 17, O'Neill Physical Therapy 7: Brian Smith led Stadium Grill and Bar with five hits. Wayne Shank had four hits and Jimmy Taylor added three hits. Shank, Eric Andrews and Andy Wyand each added a home run.

Freddie's 22, Stouffer's 12: John Mobley, Robert Winslow, Sick Shamrock and Mike Ardinger all had five hits to lead Freddie's.

Corbi's Thunder 14-23, Craig's Paving 6-10: Marvin Kendall and Tracy Kane had four hits to lead Corbi's to victory in game one. Tommy McClintock, Rich Schrieber, Jeff Ruppenthal, Lau Shifflet and Keith McClintock had three hits. Kane and Eugene Ward homered. In game two, Kendall had five hits, while Kane and Schrieber each had four hits, including a home run. Ward and Tommy McClintocke also homered.

Hagerstown Church Softball

Tri-State Fellowship 18, Christ Lutheran 15: Pete Grunberg had four hits, while Todd Streett, Howie Metger, Greg Kreps and Billy Payne each added three for Tri-State. Clair Horst, Mark Angle and Andy Koontz each had four hits for Christ Lutheran.

Maranatha/Virginia Avenue Church of God 24, Gateway 19: Ray Scadden had five hits to lead Maranatha. Bill Green had four hits, including a home run, and Brian Smith and Mike Shank had three hits.

Williams hits hole-in-one

Rich Williams, of Mesa, Ariz., hit a hole-in-one Monday at Yingling's Golf Center. Williams fired the ace on the 103-yard 15th hole with a sand wedge. The shot was witnessed by partners Rebecca Williams, Dave Williams and Charlie Williams.

Tailgate party at Hedgesville

Bob's Outdoor Catering will have an all-you-can-eat barbecue pork and beef dinner prior to the Hedgesville- Wheeling Park football game this Friday from 5:30-6:45 in the parking lot outside Mumaw Field. Cost is $10 per person and proceeds benefit Hedgesville athletics.

Anyone who purchased 2000 season tickets for Hedgesville football may pick them up at the school from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. any day this week.
