Federal conference for small businesses set


FREDERICK, Md. - An all-day federal government procurement conference for small businesses will be held Monday, Sept. 11, at Fort Detrick in Frederick, said U.S. Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett, R-Md.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Women's Business Institute, Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, Procurement Technical Assistance Center, Farmers & Mechanics National Bank and the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Facility.

Public forum scheduled for W.Va. bond issue


CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - The Home Owner Coalition of Bakerton, W.Va., has scheduled a public forum on the $39 million Jefferson County school bond issue from 7-9 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28, at the Charles Town Library, 200 East Washington St., Charles Town.

Jeannette VanBelleghem said four panelists will discuss the bond issue which is before voters in a special election Sept. 23.

Frederick chamber to hold legislative conference


FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce will hold its first Legislative Conference from 8:30-11:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, at the Catoctin Inn & Conference Center in Buckeystown, Md.

Organizers said the conference is attended to inform chamber members about the chamber's legislative work, the issues it studies, the impact of those issues to business and positions taken by the chamber in response.

Three workshops are scheduled: addressing transportation issues, growth management and the structure of county government.

Registrations for the conference must be made by Tuesday. Non-chamber members are charged $20, chamber members $10. Organizers ask that those interested call 301-662-4164.
