Margaret E. Van Scyoc

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret E. Van Scyoc, 84, of 915 Parkside Court, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born July 8, 1916, in Clayhill, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Anna Hampton Etter.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She retired in 1978 from Stanley Co. in Chambersburg.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, and was a member of Alda Bowers Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband, Walter F. Van Scyoc, whom she married May 18, 1939; one daughter, Suzanne V. Strayer of Chambersburg; one sister, June McDonald of Chambersburg; one brother, Don Etter of Russellville, Ky.; and three grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Chaplain Robert E. Keener will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Clyde C. Raff

WILLIAMSPORT - Clyde C. Raff, 95, of Homewood at Williamsport, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000.

He was born Feb. 19, 1905, at Luke, Md.

His wife, Nellie Raff, died July 16, 2000.

He is survived by a son, Donald Raff of Naples, Fla., two grandchildren, Donald and Donna, both of Miami; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending.

Walter R. Stang

SMITHSBURG - Walter Robert Stang, 78, of Haven Hill Drive, who died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village, is also survived by three grandchildren, Tina Stang, Robert Stang II and T.J. Kuhn.

Ethel L. Mongan

Ethel Louise Mongan, 59, of 261 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, and formerly of Keedysville, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 19, 1940, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Alverta Stull Mongan of Rohrersville and the late Clyde Milton Mongan.

She was formerly employed at Baltimore Street Car Wash in Hagerstown.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy M. Ramirez of Hagerstown, and Lisa L. Reed of Falling Waters, W.Va.; a son, Douglas E. Mongan of Hagerstown; two sisters, Dorothy Mills and Betty Mills, both of Williamsport; three brothers, Douglas Mongan of South Carolina, Eugene Mongan of Boonsboro, and Leroy Mongan of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren ; 15 nieces and 21 nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Manor Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Tilghmanton, Md. The Rev. Chester Martin will officiate.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

John G. Semones Jr.

BASYE, Va. - John G. "Jack" Semones Jr., 68, of Basye, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Feb. 19, 1932, in Elkins, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Gatewood Sr., and Georgia Poling Semones.

He is survived by a daughter, Genny Semones Adams of Basye; three sons, John Gatewood Semones III of Edinburg, Va., Mark Semones of Harrisonburg, Va., and Craig Semones of Richmond, Va.; four sisters, Lois Kyle and Adrienne Vance, both of Elkins, Becky Elizinga of Michigan, and Lyn Burton of Georgia; a brother, Gary Semones of California; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ardith Furguson.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at American Legion Post 119 in Woodstock, Va.

Rodney E. Fox

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Rodney E. Fox, 46, of 230 Ladnor Court, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Jan. 11, 1954, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Gerald and Eva Belle Shatzer Fox of Fayetteville.

He had worked as a welder for Nitterhouse Concrete in Chambersburg.

He was of Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Gerald A. Fox of St. Thomas, Pa.; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas. The Rev. John Rauhut will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday at 10 a.m. The funeral home will be open from 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

D. Lucille Avey

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - D. Lucille Avey, 78, of 9394 Tomstown Road, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Sept. 1, 1921, in Tomstown, she was the daughter of the late Harvey G. and Hazel S. Blubaugh Stoops.

Her husband, Charles W. Avey, died Feb. 24, 1990. They were married July 2, 1938.

She attended Quincy (Pa.) High School.
