City man charged in rape

A Hagerstown man charged earlier this month with assault and false imprisonment has now been implicated in the alleged rape of the same victim Aug. 13.

Gary Lee Keck, 36, of 104 E. Baltimore St., third floor, was being held without bond Monday at the Washington County Detention Center.

In addition to first-degree rape, Keck has been charged with second-degree rape, third- and fourth-degree sex offenses, and first- and second-degree assault, according to court records.

The victim, who contacted Hagerstown City Police Aug. 18, said she came home late from work Aug. 12 and found Keck on her couch, court records said.

She told police she was surprised to find him there because he had been in jail on $100,000 bond for an Aug. 4 assault on her.

As soon as she walked into the room, she was grabbed, pushed and kicked in the face, court records alleged. She fell to the couch and her assailant continued to beat her, court records said.

The woman told police that her assailant threatened to kill her and went out to the kitchen to get a knife. When he returned, he tore off her clothes and raped her, court records alleged.

At 8 a.m. Aug. 13, the woman's mother went to the house and together they went to Chambersburg Hospital and then to a women's shelter in Chambersburg, Pa.

Fear caused her to leave town for treatment and shelter and fear kept her from reporting the crime for five days, court records said.

Bruises and other injuries were still visible when she reported the incident and pictures were taken, police reports said.
