Drug possession charges are levied

A Laurel, Md. man was charged with one count of marijuana possession on Wednesday and now awaits a bond hearing, Hagerstown City Police said.

Rodney Alabe Johnson, 19, of 917 Canterbury Riding, was charged, police said.

Police said they observed a baggy being dropped in the area of Bethel and Prospect streets at 8 p.m.

Two women free after drug arrests

SMITHSBURG - Two women were released on bond after being arrested on drug charges Saturday, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

Mary Brice of E1 Washington Court, Smithsburg, was charged with possession of Percocet, distribution of Percocet, and possession of drug paraphernalia, Smithsburg Police said.

Emma Hahn also of E1 Washington Court, Smithsburg, was charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges resulted from a search of a 1990 Dodge Shadow during a traffic stop and a subsequent search of a home, police said.


Police seized a 1990 Dodge Shadow, $790, cellular phones and a rifle.

Money is stolen from shopping carts

WILLIAMSPORT - The Washington County Sheriff's Department is asking shoppers to watch their wallets and purses after two women had money stolen from their shopping carts Tuesday.

At 10:20 a.m., someone stole a wallet containing $300 cash, credit cards and a driver's license from a shopping cart at the CVS Pharmacy at 31 N. Conococheague St., said Sgt. Mark Faith.

At 11:46 a.m., someone stole a purse from a shopping cart at the Kmart at 1713 Massey Blvd., Faith said. The purse contained checkbooks and $80 in cash.

The women did not see who took their money, Faith said.

Power restored to 1,480 customers

SHARPSBURG - Power was restored to 1,480 Allegheny Power customers in southern Washington County by 8 Wednesday morning after a brief outage, an Allegheny Power spokesman said.

Customers in the Sharpsburg, Keedysville and Knoxville areas lost power at 6:50 a.m. after a bird got into a transformer, said spokesman Guy Fletcher.

Player is lifted from pool house

A portable compact disc/radio player worth $90 and $9 in cash were stolen from a pool house on Kensington Drive in Hyde Park between Sunday and Tuesday, according to Hagerstown City Police.
