Richard E. Johnson

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Richard E. Johnson, 78, of 18190 Mill Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born July 25, 1922, in Slabtown, Md., he was the son of the late Richard and Goldie Younker Johnson.

He farmed in Little Cove, Pa. He later worked at the former Mercersburg Tannery, and then as a machinist at Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove, Pa., retiring in 1981.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, M. Pauline McFadden Johnson; one daughter, Vicki Ann Johnson of Greencastle, Pa.; two sons, Richard L. Johnson and Gary W. Johnson, both of Greencastle, Pa.; one sister, Edna F. Andrews of New Castle, Del.; one brother, Quay Johnson of Little Cove; three grandsons; and three great-grandsons.


He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Stuart Troutman will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery in Little Cove.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Larry E. Diehl

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A memorial service for Ret. CPO Larry E. Diehl, 58, a resident of Trinity House, 25 N. Potomac St. and formerly of 235 Ridge Ave. Apartments, Greencastle, Pa., who died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, 747 S. Fourth St. in Chambersburg, Pa. The Rev. Paul Baker will officiate. Military services will be held immediately following the memorial service, conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Honor Guard.

Lester L. Myers Jr.

Military honors for Lester Leroy Myers Jr., 78, of Hagerstown, who died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Rose Hill Cemetery by American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.

Joseph E. Schwork

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joseph Edward Schwork, 68, of Martinsburg, and formerly of Brentwood, Long Island, N.Y., died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Aug. 14, 1932, in Catasauqua, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph Paul and Anna Sentiwany Schwork.

He was a retired engineer from A I L Systems Inc. / Eaton in Deer Park, N.Y.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Penrose Schwork; a daughter, Lori D. Kruppo of Oak Ridge, N.J.; a son, Thomas J. Schwork of Sparta, N.J.; and four grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Miriam Shaffer Schwork.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. will be celebrant.

Burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 233 S. Queen St., Martinsburg, WV 25401; or Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Wesley R. Barrett

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Wesley R. Barrett, 63, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born Nov. 26, 1936, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Jack and Gladys Miller Barrett.

He was a retired plumber.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by six daughters, Karen Sue Donaldson, Roberta Lynn Weisenburg and Paula Raye Groff, all of Martinsburg, Carla Faye Gardner of Blue Ridge Summit, Va., Jennifer Ann Barrett of Hedgesville, W.Va. and Beth Lorraine Stephens of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; a son, Richard David Barrett of Tysons Corner, Va.; four sisters, Frances Barrett of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Wilma Wenger of Inwood, W.Va. and Shirley Aikens and Linda Smith, both of Martinsburg; four brothers, Frank D. Barrett and Willis B. Barrett, both of Martinsburg, Douglas W. Barrett of Bladenboro, N.C. and Bruce C. Barrett of Hedgesville; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenville Barrett and Thomas Barrett.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Arden.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

William R. Wakefield

Memorial donations for William R. Wakefield, 48, of Hagerstown, who died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, may be made to John R. Marsh Cancer Center, 11110 Medical Campus Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742; or American Cancer Society, Washington County Unit, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

June E. Poole

THURMONT, Md. - June Elizabeth Poole, 79, of West Moser Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at St. Catherine's Nursing Center in Emmitsburg, Md.

Born June 22, 1921, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Howard Martin and Norma Cecilia Shipley Baltzell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Beamore Poole, in 1974.

She retired from Claire Frock in Thurmont as a seamstress after 30 years. She had worked for Fairchild Aircraft as a riveter during World War II; and for Price Electric in Frederick, Md.
