One-man attack beats Suns

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Outfielder Carlos Hernandez had eight other teammates on the field Wednesday night for the Augusta GreenJackets, but he decided to give them the night off against the Hagerstown Suns.

Rodriguez homered twice and drove in four runs as the GreenJackets handed Hagerstown its fourth straight loss in the South Atlantic League, 6-1.

Rodriguez hit a solo shot in the first inning off Marcos Sandoval (8-10) and added a two-run shot in the fifth. He also drove in a run on a single in the eighth. Rodriguez had a chance for even more runs, but grounded into a double play with runners on the corners and no one out in the third.

The Suns (55-65, 21-29), meanwhile, continued their season-long mistakes: errors in the field and a lack of clutch hitting. Hagerstown committed four errors and strannded 11 runners.

Their biggest opportunity to make things interesting came in the fifth. Down 3-0, Brandon Jackson hit a solo homer and the Suns loaded the bases with two outs on an error and two walks. But second baseman Chaz Terni made a fantastic play on Shannon Carter's grounder up the middle to get a force out at second and end the inning.
