Shorebirds defeat Suns (Saturday)

SALISBURY, Md. - Cameron Reimers and the Hagerstown Suns were done in on one pitch Saturday, as Doug Gredvig's three-run homer in the fourth inning led Delmarva to a 4-2 victory in South Atlantic League Northern Division action.

The Suns (55-63, 21-27 second half) grabbed the lead in the third when Shannon Carter singled, advanced to second on Jaime Goudie's sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on Shawn Fagan's groundout.

But Gredvig's blast off Reimers gave the Shorebirds (62-58, 26-23) a 3-1 lead they would never relinquish.

Reimer's only other mistake - an errant pickoff throw to second base in the seventh inning that advanced Delmarva runner Gary Cates to third - led to the Shorebirds' insurance run on Matt Riordan's infield hit.

Delmarva starter Eric Bedard (9-3) allowed three hits and one walk while striking out eight in six innings. Terry Plank allowed one hit and one unearned run in two innings, and Travis Fleming pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save.
