Dirk Schultz fired a 1-under 71 to beat Matt MacCumbee and Ken Nauman by three strokes during the WACO Pro's Day tournament at Beaver Creek Country Club.

Today, 15 players will try to beat Schultz, the defending champion, in Chi Chi's Shootout beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Adam Kees Tournament

Halfway 8, Valley 6: Coty Grove, Dennis Herbert and Vaughn Zimmerman had two hits each to lead Halfway. Derrick Quillen, Ben Rishell and Ryan Lipella had two hitseach for Valley.


Hub City/Pinesburg Softball

Eddie's/South End Tavern 18, Freddie's 12: Barry Petty had five hits to lead Eddie's to victory. Del Miss, Mike Metz and Jeremy Keckler had three hits and Miss homered.


O'Neill Physical Therapy/Crazy Horse 16, Firestone 11: Doug Keller went 4-for-4 to lead O'Neill to victory. Pork Wallech, Ronnie Brown and Steve Barrett added three hits. Greg Bowman homered for Firestone.

Hatch and Kirk 31, Farm and Family 9: Bo Faith, Jamie Stotler, Mike Reece, Sean Faith and Greg Ashby all had four hits, with Sean Faith homering twice, to lead Hatch and Kirk.

Braddock wins title

Braddock Motors/Sud's Shop swept four games to claim the Frederick Slo-pitch Softball Championship. The team finished 41-3 overall, hitting .688 on the year. Mick Byers led the way with an .801 batting average, followed by Rocky Wills (.763), Bill Bakner (.745), Allen Harsh (.742) and Glen Himes (.736).


Back On Track All Comers Meet

WILLIAMSPORT - Shepherdstown resident Chris Fox set a Masters (40 and over) Tri-State area record in the two-mile run to highlight the final of four meets in the series at Williamsport High School.

Fox, 41, finished in 9 minutes, 36.7 seconds to edge Hagerstown Community College's Alex McAbee, who also completed the race in record time at 9:44.0.

Greencastle-Antrim graduate Rich Polifka won the mile run in 4:50.9. HCC's Brad Mentzer placed second at 4:59.1. Marty Thompson, a 10-year old from Thurmont, set a junior division record by completing the run in 5:43.3. Thompson also won the junior boys 100 meters in 15.3 seconds.

Smiley Jackson, 43, of Hagerstown, won the 100 in 12.2 and Bob DeGrange of Greencastle won the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 4 inches.

In the junior division, Susana Brown, 10, of Williamsport, won the 100 with a time of 16.7 seconds. Tiago DeSouza won the pee-wee boys in 25.75 and Chatherin Marx won the girls in 20.2 seconds. Marx also won the junior long jump with a jump of 6-2, while Owen Marx won the boys at 5-1.
