Woman killed in Jefferson County

BOLIVAR, W.Va. - A 23-year-old woman was killed Sunday in a two-car crash on W.Va. 230, West Virginia State Police said.

The woman's name was not released Sunday night because police hadn't notified her family. Trooper T.J. Mikell said she was from Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Mikell said that the road was wet from rain and that the woman may have been driving too fast.

The collision occurred at 5:15 p.m., south of the Norwood subdivision.

Mikell said the woman's car was going south on W.Va. 230 and was approaching a northbound car driven by John Russell McKim, 53, of the Harpers Ferry, W.Va., area.

McKim reported seeing the woman's Ford Escort spinning out of control in the opposite lane so he stopped his Ford Taurus, according to Mikell.

The Escort started to go off the road, but came back on and its passenger door struck the front of the Taurus, Mikell said.

A friend of the woman was following her and saw the crash. The friend told police that they were headed to Brunswick, Md., Mikell said.

Mckim and his wife, Connie, 54, on their way home from shopping, were taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, Mikell said.

The Friendship and Independent fire companies assisted with the call.
