Hagerstown reaches PONY final


WOONSOCKET, R.I. - Josh Mitchell and Ben Jordan combined on a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Hagerstown moved into PONY League East Zone tournament final Saturday with a 10-0 victory over Woonsocket, R.I.

David Miner went 3-for-3 and Andy May and Bryson Appel had two hits each as Hagerstown moved within one win of a trip to the World Series next week in Washington, Pa.

Hagerstown plays the winner of Woonsocket and New Bedford (Mass.) at 11 a.m. in today's double-elimination final. T.J. Hose is the likely starter for Hagerstown.

Adam Kees Tournament

Valley 10, West End 9: Nathan Venditta and Kevin Tyler had two hits each, and Matt Rhoderick had a bases-loaded double that drove in all three runners to win the game for Valley. Ryan Harbaugh and Norm Potter had two hits for West End.


Federal 13, South Mountain 11: Darin Mency, Adam Poston and Will Abeles all had two hits to lead Federal. Rick Vaughn had two hits, including a homer, and Evan Lowery and Rick Crummitt also had two hits for South Mountain.

Maugansville 16, National 6: Sean Guy, Anthony Sandanato and Josh Keyfauver all homered and Guy had three hits to lead Maugansville. Sandanato, Keyfauver, Nick Allinson, Matt McCauley and Josh Koontz all had two hits for the winners. Patrick Mertz and Justin Higgins had two hits for National.

National 11, Maugansville 10: Anthony Humphrey had three hits and Eric Woodard had two hits to lead National. Branden Glazier and Miles Trumpower had two hits each for Maugansville.

Valley 15, South Mountain 14: Matt Bauer had two hits for Valley. Justin Ellsworth had three hits, including two home runs, and Ryan Lewis, Nick Knowles, and Greg Eichelberger had two hits for South Mountain.
