Mail Call for 8/2

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"About the article in Monday's Mail Call concerning Wal-Mart. I agree 100 percent with you. It is entirely overcrowded and especially inconvenient for those who live in the Eastern and Southern part of Washington County who have to drive through Hagerstown to go to Wal-Mart. This only overcrowds the streets of Hagerstown. We have several grocery stores of the same name here in Hagerstown that support Washington County residents perfectly, so why can't another Wal-Mart? To the mayor and residents of Funkstown, like the other caller stated, if you feel that other Washington County residents shouldn't drive through Funkstown due to the traffic problem, then don't you or the residents visit the Wal-Mart here on U.S. 40 and I-81. Your traffic is a burden on us here in the West End. Stay home."

"I am responding to the July 31 request for Maryland football tickets at the University of Maryland. Care of ticket office, P.O. Box 295, College Park, Md. 20741-0295 or you can call 1-800-462-TERP."

"I would like to recognize Todd Flook of Hagerstown for his assistance during an accident which occurred on U.S. 40, west of Hagerstown. Mr. Flook demonstrated good citizenship in a caring manner in helping my daughter in her time of need. My daughter and I are very grateful for your help. Thanks again, Mr. Flook. Her dad."

"Some landlords of mobile home parks take no pride in their property. It is not fair for the people to have to drive over large pot holes in the driveways, year after year and it keeps getting worse."

"I am looking for my old drinking buddy from a long time ago. I heard that his heart is bad and is in a really bad health condition. I haven't heard from him for a while and I was wondering if he was still alive. His name is Roger, he is about 50 years old, he is short, pretty heavy set, long hair and a mustache. Please leave your response in Mail Call if you know."

"This is a response to the person looking for Maryland tickets, I would suggest that you just go to the game and get them at game time. They are going to be just like the Orioles this year, you will be able to buy all the tickets you want at the stadium. Or I suggest that you just look in the trash can because if I am given any, that is where mine will be."

"Congratulations Hagerstown, the fireworks at the fairgrounds on July 31 were beautiful. Why don't we have fireworks in the middle of winter when we are all stir crazy from the cold weather?"

"Thanks to the City Light workers for restoring the power on Nottingham Road so quickly from the electrical storm on Monday night."

"My name is Rebecca and I would like to send out a thank you for those who read Pet Watch and with their calls and recovery of Brutus who was lost in the Huyetts area on Tuesday, July 27."

"The 1965 North High Class reunion. Please call me at 301-733-1806, my sister is one of your missing persons. I have her address and she is interested in details."
