Woman dies in accident



FREDERICK, Md. - An Ashburn, Va., woman died Tuesday after a sport utility vehicle in which she was riding collided with a Middletown Fire Co. firetruck at the intersection of Route 15 and Mountville Road, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Anna Marie Dumond, 39, of Ashburn, Va., was riding in a 1998 Dodge Durango driven by her sister, Donna Camille Sandberg, 40, of Herndon, Va.

Dumond was flown to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown following the 3:50 p.m. accident. She was pronounced dead at 5:28 p.m.

Sandberg also flown to Washington County Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition Tuesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The other passengers in the Durango were treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released. They included Sean Michael Sandberg, 19, of Herndon, Va.; Ryan Anthony Dumond, 11, of Ashburn, Va.; Brittany Nicole Dumond, 10, of Ashburn, Va.; and Kyle Thomas Sandberg, 13, of Herndon, Va.

All aboard the firetruck were treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released.

The 1996 Pierce firetruck was driven by William Kenneth Metcalf, 43, of 13 S. Church St., Middletown, Md.

Those aboard the firetruck included Kenneth Edward Crutchley, 28, of Myersville, Md.; Brenton Wayne Harne, 29, of Middletown, Md.; Samuel Dustin Bussard, 16, of Middletown, Md.; and Josh Alan Loveless, 20, of Middletown, Md.

The Sheriff's Office said that Middletown Fire Co. Truck 72, en route to a house fire, was traveling eastbound on Mountville Road and attempting to cross Route 15.

The fire truck, with its lights and siren on, entered the intersection and was hit broadside by the Durango, which was southbound on Route 15, the Sheriff's Office said.

Investigation into the accident was continuing.

Route 15 was closed to traffic for about six hours following the accident.
