Local roundup - South Mountain ousted from LL tourney

PERRYVILLE, Md. - Jeremiah Mills threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and it wasn't enough for the South Mountain Little League All-Stars.

Northeast loaded the bases and scored in the sixth inning to spoil Mills' gem Monday and oust South Mountain from the Maryland 11-12 Little League State Tournament.

Justin Mayse pitched a three-hitter to lead Northeast.

Branden Rohrer, Aaron Dixon and Kyle Cane collected the hits for South Mountain.


FREDERICK, Md. - Monday night's Damascus-Funkstown Post 211 Maryland State Tournament game was rained out.

The teams will play today at noon at McCurdy Field. If Funkstown wins, a second game will be played at 3 p.m.


Braves lead suspended game

The Hagerstown Braves holds a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning against Fayetteville Monday before rain halted play.

Dylan Hetzel had a two-run single and Deron Crawford allowed three hits while striking out four.


The game will resume today at 5:45 with in Fayetteville, Pa. with the Double A's batting with no outs in the seventh and runners on first and third.


Colt League

Erlanger (Ky.) 4, Chambersburg (Pa.) 3: Josh Reinhart and Derick Moeves combined on a two-hitter to lead Erlanger to the championship. Kyle Mullen had two hits.

Adam Kees Memorial Tournament

National 6, Federal 4: Matt Campbell had two hits, including a home run, to lead National. Sean Martz and Corey Farris also had two hits.

Brandenburg Memorial Tournament

Brunswick 7, Halfway 5: Chris Hovis struck out seven to lead Brunswick to victory.

Brunswick 5, American 3: Tommy Cline had two hits, including a home run, and Seth King hit an inside-the-park home run as Brunswick won the right to meet Valley in tonight's championship game at 7. Dominique Byrd had two hits for American.

South Mountain Invitational

South Mountian 12, West End 7: Justin Edwards had three hits to lead South Mountain to the championship. Ryan Lewis, Joshua Smith, Nick Knowles and Dustin Schaffer all had two hits. Lacy Clipp and Matt Reynolds each had a hit for West End.

River City Classic

American 5, Maugansville 4: Michael Russ tossed a five-hitter to lead American to victory. Aaron Mills and Greg Luhouse had two hits for Maugansville. American faces South Mountain in the championship game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Grier wins two tournaments

Hagerstown's Ashley Grier captured two junior tournaments recently.

Grier carded an 85 to win the Mid-Atlantic Junior Tour event Monday at Sparrow's Point. The win was Grier's fourth title of the season on the Mid-Atlantic Junior Tour, giving her 437 1/2 points and the tour lead.

On Thursday, Grier shot 78 to win the girls' 16-18 year old division of the Maxfli Junior PGA Tour event at Reston National Golf Club.


Hub City/Pinesburg Softball

Miller Lite 22, Firestone 15: Jeff Beatty hit two home runs and Scott Shank homered among his five hits to lift Miller Lite over Firestone. Steve Crabtree also had five hits while Randy Herbert, St. St. James and Jimmy Ezolt all had four hits.

Osborne's/Wilbert's 19, Dual Highway Motors 10: Mike Green had five hits to lead Osborne's to victory. Heath Crone, Darrell Trumpower, Brian Chaney, Jim Mitchell and Chuck Smith all had three hit. One of Smith's hits was a homer.

Craig's Paving 16, Farm Family Insurance 5: Mick Byers had four hits, includint two home runs, to lead Craig's. Brad Weaver and Mark Manuel also had four hits. Lew Thomas, Steve McKemmy and Calvin Staubs added three hits and Ricky Christian homered.

O'Neil Physical Therapy/Crazy Horse 25, Stadium Tavern 21: Pork Wallech and Jeff Foltz had five hits to lead the winners. Ronnie Brown and Bobby MacPhearson had four hits and Donny Gipe and Gil Parks had three hits.

Hagerstown Area Church Softball

Christ Reform/St. James 17, New Life 14: Lloyd Kelly had five hits to lead Christ Reform. Eric Hahn had four hits and Rodney Burgan homered. Doug Mongan had five hits for New Life.

Tri-State Fellowship 11, Grace Bretheran 9: James Knodle had four hits to lead Tri-State over Grace. Jamie Snyder had three hits, Howie Metzgar tripled among his two hits and Danny Fraker homered.
