Betty M. Henson

CAVETOWN - Betty May Holder Henson, 70, of 12016 Mapleville Road, who died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at her home, is survived by a daughter, Samantha Fraval of Hagerstown, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Walter B. Burcker

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Walter Burley Burcker, 75, of Shenandoah Junction, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Integrated Health Services of West Virginia in Charles Town, W.Va.

Born March 5, 1925, in Luray, Va., he was the son of the late Luther W. and Vinda Jenkins Burcker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Irene Burcker.

He was a retired orchard worker.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by a daughter, Susie A. Price of Hidden River, Kearneysville, W.Va.; a close friend, Virginia Fiddler of Shenandoah Junction; a brother, Joseph Burcher of Marlowe, W.Va.; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by a sister, Flossie B. Dodson; five brothers, Lewis Burcker, Lawrence Burcker, Melvin Burcker, Archie Burcker and Nathan Alfred Burcker.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Willard C. Kromm

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Willard C. Kromm, 78, of 212 Cardinal Lane, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg.

He was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Baltimore.

His wife, Betty Kromm, died April 22, 1996.

He was a truck driver.

He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Bond of Lutherville, Md.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Moreland Park, Baltimore.

Betty J. Pentz

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Betty J. Gearhart Eyler Pentz, 73, of 145 Snider Ave., and formerly of Greencastle, Pa., died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro. The Revs. Prudence Yelinek and Dwan Newsome will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends today one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Susan P. Hauver

ROUND HILL, Va. - Susan Potts Hauver, 37, of Round Hill, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at her home.

She was the daughter of Richard A. Potts of Falling Waters, W.Va., and the late Mary Elizabeth Potts.

She graduated from Loudoun Valley High School, and received a degree in public administration from Christopher Newport College.

She was a homemaker; and worked for the National Park Service at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and Wolf Trap Farm Park.

She was a Girl Scout leader and den mother for Cub Scouts.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Hauver; three daughters, Alexandra, Laura and Kathryn; two sons, James S. and Jeffrey; and one brother, Michael Allman of Bluemont, Va.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lovettsville, Va.

Friends may call at Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville, Va., today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 124 Park St., Vienna, VA 22183.

Vernon G. Rankin

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W. Va. - Vernon G. Rankin, 81, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Oct. 21, 1918, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward and Lillie Culp Rankin.

He owned and operated Vernon Rankin Excavating, retiring in 1983.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a member of Sons of American Legion Post 60, Berkeley Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Hollenbaugh Rankin; a daughter, Lois Jean Rankin of Bay City, Texas; three sons, Herbert Wayne Rankin Sr., Vernon G. Rankin Jr. and Roy W. Rankin Sr., all of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, LeEsta Anderson and Rita Lea Lutman, both of Berkeley Springs; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Rankin and James Starliper; and a granddaughter.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Jack Hiles will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert M. Clift

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Robert Morris Clift, 78, of Charles Town, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at his home.

Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Breckenridge, Texas, he was the son of the late Ira Lee and Ruth Sullivan Clift.

His wife of 55 years, Barbara J. "Babs" Clift, died May 29, 1997.

He attended George Washington University and received a B.A. in economics and international affairs.

He was employed by Woodward and Lothrop; was a sales representative for Addressograph-Multigraph; and worked as an investment manager for Groth Inc.
