South Mountain wins 11-12 opener


PERRYVILLE, Md. - Cameron Shifler's one-out single down the left-field line in the seventh inning brought in the game-winning run Saturday as South Mountain beat Frederick American 5-4 in the first round of the Maryland 11-12 Little League State Tournament.

Shifler's third hit of the game brought in Jeremiah Mills, who struck out 11 in a complete game and also had two hits for South Mountain. The team plays Fruitland, the Salisbury-area district champion, at 12:30 today in the second round.

Ty Main had two hits for Frederick American.

Adam Kees Tournament

Maugansville 16, Federal 4: Winning pitcher Anthony Sandonato had three hits and Brett Bloom added two, including a three-run home run, to lead Maugansville. Sean Guy added two hits. Ben Poole had two hits for Federal.

South Mountain 2, American 1: Zach Shifler piched three-hitter with eight strikeouts while Travis Hahn added two hits for South Mountain. Chuch Rouzee pitched three hitter with 10 strikeouts for American.


Valley 22, Hancock 1: Ryan Wilson had three hits and Corey Ausherman, Ben Richell and Garrett Delaney had two hits for Valley.

Halfway 7, West End 4: Michael Larkin struck out 10 and Cody Grove, Tommy Wallech, Levi Pogue and Larkin all had two hits to lead Halfway. Norm Potter had two hits for West End.

River City Classic

South Mountain 4, Maugansville 3: Tyler Fath had three hits and Jared Ferguson and Bradley Roy had two hits to lead South Mountain. Ferguson and Fath combined for the win, striking out 10.

American 7, National 6: Joe Schildt had two hits and Tyler Ernde drove in the game-winning run to lead American past National. Brittney Hyatt had two hits in a losing cause. American plays West End today at 6 p.m.

7-8 All-Stars

Clear Spring 16, Sharpsburg 6: Bradley Jordan, Zach Leazier and Cory Shrader had three hits and Eric Ecton, Lindsay Trumpower and Taylor Leonard all had two hits to lead Clear Spring. Dryan Cole had three hits and Tyler Marshall had two hits for Sharpsburg.

West End 15, South Mountain 14: Ryan Bean had the game-winning RBI and Dwight Boward had four hits for West End. Bradley Etzler had three hits for South Mountain.

West End 8, South Mountain 0: Aaron Stoner and Josh Smith combined on the shutout and Smith had three hits for West End. Dustin Routzahn and James Firnhaber had two hits for South Mountain.

South Mountain 10, Conococheague 8: Greg Eichelberger and Travis Donini had two hits for South Mountain and Dustin Boward had two hits for Conococheague.

Paul Brandenburg Memorial

Valley 5, American 3: Matt Baer and Andrew Litton combined on a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts and Joe Baer had three hits to lead Valley. Gerald Counsel had two hits for American.

Halfway 12, National 9: Richard Roby had three hits for National.


Tavern Softball League

Texas Roadhouse 19, 40 West Lounge 4: Brian Lapole and Brian Koontz had four hits, Rob Smith and Mitchell Caldwell had three hits and Lapole and Smith homered for Texas Roadhouse.

Central Coca Cola 13, True Value 5: Jesse Giles homered for Central Coca Cola.

40 West Lounge 16, Old Orchard Liquors 6: Reggie Rine and Paul Busch had four hits and Jason Taylor had three hits for 40 West Lounge.

Texas Rouadhouse 34, Quality Drywall/Sportsmen Den 15: Brian Lapole and Dave Shoop had six hits, Jimmy Randall and Mark Scott had five hits, Larry Mason had four hits, Lapole hit five home runs, Scott hit three home runs and Brian Koontz hit a home run for Texas Roadhouse.
