Gardenhour's sister Melanie Davies is a producer in her own right

In the 10 years following her work with Redken, Melanie Davies broke into regional and national commercials in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, Nashville, Tenn., and Miami. She was offered a chance to coordinate "The Adventures of Superboy," a television series in Orlando, Fla., and later produced other shows there.

She met Ed Mansfield, a producer and former professional wrestler known as "The Continental Lover," in 1991. They married a few years later. Mansfield Productions, their company, has produced commercials, infomercials and the television series "Sizzlin Hot Country" and "Crime Scene."

NASCAR driver John Andretti hosts "Kids 'N Motorsports," the show Davies has taken from concept to syndication and called her proudest achievement. The show highlights "speed demons" 18 years old and younger and offers education about racing strategy, equipment and safety. It airs locally on WJAL, channel 68.

Davies recently produced the taping of the Miss United States Teen competition in Orlando, and her company is putting together a Christmas show. The working title is "Welcome to my Christmas," and hosts are country music artist Martina McBride and radio personality Mike Harvey of "Super Gold." Performers include Michael W. Smith, C Note, Deborah Gibson and maybe Al Green and Patti LaBelle.

Davies, 45, remembers watching the beautiful dancers on television variety shows when she was a kid. She wanted to be a part of that.

Being a producer is even more exciting and challenging, she said.
